DFRPG / Case Files at cons
« on: November 19, 2011, 07:22:00 PM »
I plan on running one or two DFRPG sessions at a small con in Kalamazoo MI (Marmalade Dog) and would like to know wow do the Case Files work for Cons and a four hour time slot?

Also, any suggestions on how to run them at cons?

Thanks

DFRPG / Re: Adding Players after initial character/city creation?
« on: August 03, 2011, 12:50:35 PM »
I had a player join after everyone else participated in the group character creation, and another player decided to change characters after five sessions.  For the new PCs I insisted that they have their High Concept and Trouble.  We then worked on the first three phases, even if it was just coming up with the Aspects.  I let them decide the last two Phases/Aspects latter; because by this time the other players were getting antsy to start playing.  In each case the first adventure was the established characters saving the new PC from some sort of trouble they got into.

There is one more player that wants to change his PC.  It will be the same model, but will involve the death of his old character this time.

One of my group had a die go turn against him.  He later complained about trying to throw it away while crossing a bridge.  It struck the concert railing, bounced back and landed in the back seat.  His claim is the die rolls so bad, he couldn’t hit the dark of night with it.

A player created a Wizard that with the High Concept:  Fire Marshal Pyromancer Wizard

Also, he didn't want to be a poor wizard he so went with a Resource of Great (+4) and the stunt Windfall (Giving him a Legendary (+8) Resources once per adventure)

Three that I created for a small con in Kalamazoo a few weeks ago.

Half-Demon Social worker.
 - Supernatural sense was Sees Mortal Magic

Were-Panther Cat Burglar.

Female changeling with the High Concept:  Harley Riding Goblin Changeling.
She got caught up in the Wild Hunt as a 'hound'.  Now works as a bike mechanic.
I think I like her aspects the best of all the PCs I created for the con.
Trouble:  A Taste for the Kill
                 The Son Dad Wanted
My Bite Is Worse Than My Bark
                  Breaking Things for the Better

I still game with my high school friends, 30+ years later.  They can still be a bunch of immature imbeciles.  But we get together and have fun.  So what if one of them runs naked down the street screaming, I roll with it and they gladly accept the consequences.  Meanwhile everyone laughs and we have a great time.

Years ago, I wanted less juvenile pranks in game and ran a small select of hard core RPers.  And I still ran the pillage, burn, and prank brigade.  It worked well enough to make me happy.

Also consider where the were-form comes from.  I created a were-panther character whose shape shifting powers is hereditary due to an old bargain with the fae.   His catch is the fae catch, cold iron and such.

How would you do Black Magic spells for manipulating people work in DFRPG?  Are they placing an aspect that can be freely tagged, similar to the Addictive Venom?

*sigh*
That'd be why, then...
Why do I keep opening the wrong file?
Yea, me too.  That is why I not only moved them to their own directory, I zipped them named the zip file, 'Pre-Release DFRPG Books'.  Now all that is messing me up is my sometime poor reading comprehension of the released books.

Wait, I think I've heard of this guy...

That works more than you know.  The city is New Orleans.

My question is, why does he want to throw weapons?
Why, because he is trying to Min/Max the system.  He wanted to do the spell damage, plus the daggers weapon damage of 1.

I gave him all the options and he settled on the smart choice.  Number one.  As a fashion designer and tailor to the white council, he uses sewing needles to satisfy the fae’s catch.

DFRPG / Telekinetic Wizard

I have a player that wants to create a Wizard that uses telekinesis to throw weapons.  His idea is to carry knives, ball bearings and such to hurl at people using a telekinesis spell.  Reading different posts in the forums, I have few possibilities.

1. The throw things spell causes damage based solely on strength of the spell.
2. Use a spell to create a maneuver “Enchanted Throwing weapon” and tag if for free on the next exchange using the Weapon skill to throw.
3. Use magic item slots to create enchanted throwing weapons.  This would probably require the Weapon skill to use.
4. Get the supernatural stunt, Breath Weapon.  Consider it a spell casting effect that doesn’t require stress to use.

Is there any other way it can be handled?

DFRPG / Re: What was your most "Harry" in-game moment?
« on: January 24, 2011, 11:51:51 PM »
While not very spectacular, still Harry-ish.

The Half Demon US Marshal is driving everyone in his BMW.  Not really his, as it was supplied by the US Marshal service having been confiscated and turned over to the Marshals.  The wizard was using thaumaturgy to track an wounded and fleeing Chuprakabra.  While driving around trying to corner the beasty, the tracking spell remained running.  First the car developed a slight knock.  Then the CD player started to skip with the Marshals favorite CD playing.  Eventually the Marshal was started to suspect that the wizard had something to do with his odd playing CD.

The next hex aspect was the Marshal players idea.  He tried to eject the CD, but it wouldn't eject.  Nor would the CD player turn off or lower the volume.  To make matters worse, it started to play one song over and over.  The one song on the album the Marshal disliked and tended to hit the skip button rather than listen to.  The remainder of the chase involved a half demon glaring at a smirking wizard.  And the Chupra got away, because no one wanted to get wet slogging through a bayou at night.

Ahem. "Purple Pyromaniac Chimpanzees Flinging Incendiary Poo!"
That is all.
;D  Yea, that happened too.  I guess there is a bit of the silly in my version of Dresden.

Damn, now I´ve got these Werecat-Ninjas stuck in my head and will probably make them a faction in my San Francisco campaign.

Do I get a Fate Point for adding a complication?
