DFRPG / Re: Alternate Focus Items

Now, another idea I had was for his main attack item.  I figured his elements would be spirit, water, and earth.  The main attack rote he has is a magnetic based where he grabs a bunch of specially prepared coins/shards of metal and blasts them at whoever.  Increase in shifts would represent higher velocity's of the metal.  I was thinking of having each of the shards prepared as a minature focus item, all adding up to onne big one.  How much do you think I would have make the total mass of metal to have it count as normal +1 focus item?

I live in East Atlanta, by the Zoo.  Do you know anyone else who is interested?  I'm new in town, and the only gamers I know are entirely committed.

DFRPG / DFRPG in Atlanta

So, my game master just bowed out of the game he was just starting up.  Is there anyone else in the Atlanta area running/playing/interested in a Dresden Files game?  I just moved down here, other wise I would provide the players.

DFRPG / Alternate Focus Items

Ok, so I am starting a game where I'm playing a wizard.  The concept is that he was raised in a long standing White Council family, then broke away from them after he passed his tests and eschewed magic for years thereafter.  He's now being drawn back into the wizarding life, and is making his focus items from scratch.  The idea I have is that he is used to going into public places, and doesn't want to be conspicuous with staff/wand.  I was thinking cloth wraps for an item, basically long strips of silk with runes etched onto them.  The other idea I was having was tattoos.  Would that be too cheesy, since they would be basically un-removeable?

I realize that this is a bit like demanding a first class seat aftering being offered a free ride, but does anyone know about more source books coming out?

DFRPG / Quad Cities group?

Is there anyone here who both A) lives in the Quad Cities area of Illinois and Iowa and B) wants to start up a game?  I play Monday and Tuesday's at Games +1 but the people there are...hesitant to start up a new game, especially one so STRANGE (these are d20/d10/d6 style gamers).  I'd love to get together with some others who'd like to play a little.

This game is not Shadowrun.

I would hope not.  I'm trying to 1) get a group of people interested enough to play it and 2) learn the game so it can be played without multiple book checks.  I was simply using Shadowrun as a "4 hrs legwork for 1/2 hr combat" ratio example.  Thanks for the help to everyone, btw.

First off, how would you achieve that knowledge, that a combat session is coming up? Second off, why is your GM giving you sessions that don't involve both research and combat?

Dude, have you ever played Shadowrun?

Ok, I got the PDA and have been reading over it, and I am a little confused about skills.

1.  Going by the setup in the book, the 5-4-3-2-1 setup of skills, before you could raise a skill a rank, you would have to take a new skill at 1 in order to be able to raise any of your other skills up a rank permanently.  Is that right, or am I reading it wrong?

2.  At minor milestones, you are able to change the rating of any two skills.  Going by the reading in the book, you can have Lore at superb for when you are doing research, with combat skills at 1, and then switch them out for when you know you are having a combat session.  I don't think that's the way it's supposed to be.
