No books in front of me to confirm this, but wasn't there a distinctly female guiding voice in Storm Front? Right outside the Lake House? I'm fairly certain. If so, this means there's been a voice hanging around since the very beginning, and there need be no connection to Lasciel at all.

I am forced to concede to your kung fu.

And yeah, I hadn't considered that there are probably a berjillion PIs at D*Con considering the circumstances.

TIS-

Can you give us a synopsis of the juicy bits of the CSI panel? I missed that one.

The Beyond Binaries panel actually didn't have a line. Plenty of empty seats (likely due to the hour at which it was). I did miss the supernatural CSI one, so I hope SOMEONE got a tape/transcript of it.

Re: the interview. I keep intending to ask Jim What the Jade Court feed off of (and if we'll see them in the future), but by the time I remembered it was too late to get in line to ask.

I also keep hoping to ask if he's going to get back to his writer's workshop on the livejournal.

For Priscilla- There was a disappointing lack of Molly at the con. Wheredju go?

Thanks to everyone I met both in the insane signing line and other places. Was truly awesome to see the murph/harry combo (though I cannot remember your names) outside the hotel on the way back from lunch.

A BIG thanks to Fred for being such an awesome guy and just chattin' at the signing and on the way to the various panels etc. Look forward to future opportunities to see you guys in the future.

Next goal: actually get a chance to have a conversation w/ Mr. Popular-Butcher. All his lines were absolutely nuts, so out of respect for the other fans it was pretty rough to actually just "chill" and talk.

Most interesting moment: Beyond Binaries 101 panel. Jim as the only male on the panel, and by far the most interesting participant, though I suppose it felt like he wasn't sure why exactly he was picked for it ;-)

DF Reference Collection / Re: Questions Specifically for Jim, Part 3
« on: August 05, 2010, 05:38:36 PM »
A couple of Questions:

1: which is more fun to write, Dresden or Alera

2: Do you play the Dresden Files RPG, if so, can we see your character?

I believe he's answered both of these in interviews.

1) "Different, and fun for different reasons" is a good summary as I remember?

2) He will neither play nor GM Dresden files. As a GM it would "be too much like work" and as a player I believe his exact words were that he'd "be a GM's nightmare. 'It is this way and I'll put it in the next book if I have to!' ".

Hope that helps. Can provide links to interviews if you need.

Thanks, that's not a bad idea. I'll have to write up a sample of that and see if it flows well for me.

Author Craft / Stylistic help!
« on: June 18, 2009, 06:25:28 PM »
I've got a plot, a cast, and a beginning, middle, and end. What I don't have, is a perspective/style and that's where I need help. The story is about three high-school aged teens (though technically one is a third-year repeat senior) who get caught up in a war between Heaven and Hell. My problem arises in that I want to feature each of the three teens as main characters as much as possible, but writing in the third person terrifies me (I find myself repeating their names "Jason does x... Sam does y... Jason responds" and reading it back to myself is like nails on a chalkboard).

I guess my question is this: does anyone have any stylistic suggestions that would allow me to avoid third person while still focusing on all three characters? or, failing that, a means to write in third person without constantly feeling the need to repeat the character names to describe their actions? One theory has been to divide the book into shorter sections, with each 1/3 being told from one of the main character's perspectives, but I'm worried this will be too jarring from a reader's perspective for it to read smoothly.

I'm not published, though throughout the various levels of schooling I've been repeatedly encouraged to attempt it, so here I am just getting my feet wet.

ps- I'd like to shoot a big Thank You to JB for his 'writing classes' on his blog. I'd love to see more of that if you ever get the time Jim.
