DF Spoilers / Re: BFB's first-pass WAGS, Peace Talks

14)   The Za Lord becomes a mantle- the Lord of the Dewdrop Fairies. Harry signs the Accords on *those* terms if kicked out of the Council. Mantle ability is a form of intellectus- Harry can know, if he thinks about it, what any of the faeries know, and speak multiple languages. He also gains a constant craving for sweets.
I've been secretly hoping for this one... and it ties in with the words in the (first?) book: Conjure it if you dare... meaning he has to answer summons?

Murphy got her P-90 back after losing it in the water apparently.  Though that may have just been her being able to get another one.
Wasn't she given two originally?

So is Bob a non magical being?  Now that he is with Butters he seems to have access to the internet.
Bob isn't mortal, so his magic isn't conflicted.  We see also how the Sidhe have no issue with technology as well, since they're not mortal and not conflicted about their magic use.

Why is older tech safe, and new tech suspect? It has to do with the belief of the populace. Tech made before WWII is probably fine because almost everyone has lived all their life with it and doesn't think it's anything special.  Tech made in the past 30 years gets more complicated as many people don't understand it, and tech within the past 10 years must still seem magical to many. We don't understand exactly HOW our smart bluetooth drone-connected phone works, but it does and we love it.
The only thing that comes to my mind, like what's actually changed, is that we are in the age of the transistor since roughly post-WW2.  Cars for instance, prior to WW2 "ish" we were more in the mechanical age - cars were based on purely mechanical actions.  Newer cars have technology enhancements such as electrically calibrated injection, electrically monitored fluids, etc.

Nah, Harry did a lot of work in Metal (force rings, shield bracelet, bear belt buckle, svartalf Summoning circle, lighting chain).  He even laments in SG that he'd not yet had the time or money to rebuild his metalcrafting capabilities, which is why he moved some of his standard enchantments to his staff.  But have you ever tried to carry around a 2"x6' staff made of steel?  Or even a 1"x18" rod?  Not going to be winning any footraces carrying those.  Wood is traditional, is far easier to work in general, and makes a far lighter final product.  Also, if a wooden blasting rod explodes from being overloaded (like in Changes) its going to do less damage to it's wielder than a metal rod exploding (with or without molten shrapnel).
True, but he could add a tip to each end of the staff - perhaps something out of that silvery stuff the Sidhe use, making it "legal" to carry around Mab - which makes his staff a bit more versatile.  In fact, come to think of it... he could have a snap-on steel attachment to cut through Fae enchantments?

Has the idea of enchanting a gun itself to be a staff- or blasting-rod-like item come up in this thread?  It could be one of those polymer material guns to avoid the iron in faery problem.  There's actually two bonuses here: he runs out of bullets, he starts throwing magic through it, or if he starts with magic, he can resort to bullets.  Each clip could be imbued with an energy spell, refreshing himself in prolonged battles while replacing the bullets.
Could even have a "don't look here" compulsion added to it so that it wouldn't be noticed ordinarily..

personally I never understood why there isn't a weapons master for the wardens. If they all get a sword and a cloak why not a set of armor or shield like swat or at the very least someone independent that makes stuff like the guy that made daredevils suits in the netflix show
I wondered something similar actually.  Yes, Luccio used to make the swords BUT that's a specific, unique item.   I don't watch daredevil, so maybe my thought is already expressed, but I'm thinking more like someone who is tasked with looking over the wizard's arsenal and directing them appropriately. (No wand?  Oh, oh, sorry "blasting rod".  Yeah, you'll need one.  No bullet dampener focus?  Ok, you'll need to fix that.  Here's a book on how to create short and long term focii, and forms to request materials.  Return it undamaged, if you value your health.  Using a revolver?  What are we, the wild west?  Use a semi-auto son, we ARE in the 21st century after all!)  He could even be responsible for handing out expensive materials for enchanting requirements, or even holding specific items when not needed in the field, and then chases down the wizard who borrowed it (with or without extreme prejudice :)).  Basically... a wizard version of Q?

Personally, I like the idea of the Winter mantle being used to supplement his staff.  He could use ice to form edges along four feet of its length, leaving him a two foot handle for his ice sword-staff.  Not to mention he could use ice to make it a spear, or even a sickle.
Didn't he form dagger-like ice formations in the battle with sharkface in Cold Days?

A thought I had was if he had his staff tips shod with the same metal that the fey use for swords; but have them augmentible with ice or fire magic.  I'm sure Mab has a creature in her service that could provide something for Sir Harry...

DF Spoilers / Re: How Harry would do the Dark Hallow in Changes wag
« on: June 06, 2017, 09:56:07 PM »
I don't think that anyone that could help him with that would do it. And he probably couldn't do it lying in bed.
I read the statement a bit differently; that he would call Lasciels coin to get mobility, THEN if the Nickelheads were not going to follow his lead, perform the dark hollow to get the additional power he would need, at which point probably won't even need Lasciels coin either...

The conversation with Lara seemed to imply he was going to turn her to a BC.  Isn't that enough to be considered?
No... I don't think they need to be a master to turn.  I thought they were the most virulent form - infecting on a gigantic scale I think is the way it was put?  I forget the quote.. books many miles away at home !

If Lea is right, then Mab and Titania are in the same weight class as Uriel.  The Mothers are a cut above, at major-god levels.  Seems appropriate, given that they are the heart of faerie.

Ferrovax?  I think there's WoJ on him placing him at archangelic levels, but I can't quote it.
I thought the capital D Dragons were cosmic forces in their own right?

Not everyone sees something wrong with the idea of being an immortal superhuman goatman. :P
Maybe they knew the Fae side was part goat and thought it meant Satyr?  Blinded by dreams of the Nymphs...

Slightly OT, but this made me remember a question I had
Quote
"Fewer tentacles.  Fewere screams.  Less death."
[/snip]
"So," I said.  "Why haven't I dreamed about you before?"
"Because I wasn't allowed to contact you before," my father said easily.
Is someone stopping Harry from being contacted by his father on purpose, or is it just as-it-happens?

How old is the gatekeeper? to have killed the author of The Necronomicon he would have to be at least 1300 years old.
Or have the permission/access to jump time...

As to why Mouse didn't bark at the fire...  I have to say I had the same idea as
I don't recall Mouse being there?  I thought he'd sent him with Molly.

I'm sure this was brought up before, but can someone please refresh me... did we get to see what happened to Bob following his fight with the Anti-Bob? For the life of me I can't seem to recall any mention of him after Harry escapes the Nevernever.
No.. we don't get to see what happens.  Which kinda sucked for me, I liked Bob..

DF Books / Re: Did you discover the books because of the TV Show?
« on: August 14, 2011, 10:47:52 AM »
Wish there would be a rethinking of the series.  It would be superb to create the books into movies that are following a slightly different arc but the same main story thread.  This would give you a double bonus: knowing the book backwards wouldn't put a damper on the movie.

Based on the popularity of the series I found it hilarious that it got cancelled instead of improved.  Guess fan opinion is always the last factor to a studio exec's mind: look at firefly (more fans than stargate, yet only managed to get one season).
