DFRPG / Brand New to RPGs

Long time fan of The Dresden Files, and I've seen the posts about the DFRPG, I'm very new to RPGs in general, never really played a post by post or DnD before. Long time gamer, and video game rpgs are among my favorite games. Just wondering how I can start out in the DFRPG?

I still don't think every powerful being has to have a mantle, I don't think the Erlking is a mantle, I just think he is a powerful being. Why can't there just be powerful BADD@$$ out there?
