DF Books / Re: If I were Jim...
« on: December 14, 2018, 02:08:45 PM »
I would probably take a good look at the series and go, it has been a while ride but 22 books (plus 3 mega books) is too much. I would condense the next 6 books into 1 or 2 books, and make the capstone trilogy just one book. Then continue on with new works or prequel stuff etc.
You make some good points. While I would rather see the full series in all of its glory, I do worry about the possibility that it will never get finished. (Sort of like Serenity, which I understand to be all of a planned season 2 of Firefly in one sitting.) Given the choice of a short Dresden Files versus no Dresden Files, I'd pick a short one.

DF Books / Re: Older posts?
« on: November 05, 2018, 11:33:24 AM »
Some boards prefer to have posters start new threads rather than reply to older ones. This keeps a sense of chronology -- what topics were discussed in what order. Like the previous posters, I'd prefer to be able to reply to whatever I like. However, I can understand why an admin may have a policy of locking threads after a certain time passes.

DF Books / Re: The Growing Time Gap in DF Releases
« on: November 05, 2018, 11:29:00 AM »
I'll chime in the say that this thread didn't go the way I thought it would go. Somehow from the title I expected thoughts on the Dresdenverse timeline. Since most of the time we assume that Harry's adventures more-or-less occur in "real time" what does a long time gap mean as far as the characters? (e.g. release date for books has always been assumed to correlate somehow with our actual calendar.)

As to why we haven't gotten more DF books, I'm bummed but I can understand that authors have things to do. I just wish they included more writing.

Cinder Spires Books / Re: Next book?
« on: June 02, 2016, 01:51:12 PM »
This is, of course, an unfortunate offshoot of the fact that we have an author with more than one popular series -- he has to juggle them and only has finite time to commit to each. As much as I'm enjoying the Cinder Spire series so far, I'd almost rather that he focus on Dresden Files until it's finished and then come back to this one.

DFRPG / Re: Dresden Files Cooperative Card Game

Been away for a while and totally missed out on the KS for this. Guess I'll have to wait until it hits the game stores. Eventually. :-(

DFRPG / Re: The Dresden Files Accelerated Playtest Is Open

My group was part of the original "bleeders" and "burners" alpha playtests, but we got rejected for the accelerated playtest. I suspect they got lots of offers.

DFRPG / Re: Is the fate system the best for the book series

I'd love to see the Dresdenverse done using Amber Diceless. Not quite as complex as FATE but still free and loose to play...

DFRPG / Re: Introducing Newbies

I think the best thing to do is have your players watch an episode or two of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and of Charmed.

(1) Both shows give players a feel for what a supernatural campaign is all about. Buffy shows a lot about vampires and Charmed gives hints about magic. You might warn them that these shows are not canon, however, and that some things will be different in the game than shown on TV.

(2) The advantage to doing this is that you avoid spoilers. If they read the books or the rulebook they get ideas that could spoil surprises in your game. A new group is the best to play with, becasue you can "borrow" stuff from Jim's books and the players think that you are brilliant.

DFRPG / Re: Pre-gens?
« on: October 03, 2012, 01:59:40 AM »
Sorry for the delay.  Here are some Feet in the Water-level partially pre-generated characters.  More to follow as time permits.
Thanks for this! Always nice to have some pre-gens ready, just in case....  8)

DFRPG / Re: Did You Discover the Books Through the RPG?
« on: December 25, 2011, 12:30:01 PM »
Huge fan of the books first, which is what led me to playtest the DFRPG.

My local cable network didn't get SciFi channel so I didn't get to watch the TV show until the DVD set came out.

Jumping off of the last post (thanks chris), you should run Night Fears. It's very setting light and has a lot of potential for exploring the intricacies of the system in a very easy paced way. Also it's free. Go look it over.

Ah, Sinker somehow I missed this post in my other read-through of the thread.  :-[ Thanks for the tip, and I'm downloading the adventure right now!
