DF Spoilers / Re: Anyone Else Surprised or Disappointed That Harry
« on: October 08, 2020, 09:26:10 AM »
As long as we're listing things Peace Talks/Battleground seem missing, Where was the Leanansidhe? All the fey turn out, from the Gobblin King to both courts of the Sidhe, to all the local wild fey. Basically everyone, EXCEPT the one fey whomis said to be stronger than all save Mab. Why? What gives there? That extra punch might have saved lives. Where was she?

Personally, my first thought was whether or not Butters could shave with it. It seems like the ultimate safety razor. And either of the other Swords could cut the hair of a willing innocent without violating their mandate. So, I'd like to see Butters shave with a lightsaber.

DF Spoilers / Lightsaber of Faith

So, since it won't cut mortal flesh, the Sword of Faith now seems like the best of all possible safety razors. Could Butters shave with it? I mean, conservation of energy, right? The other Swords could cut the hair if an innocent without violating their mandate, yes? So why couldn't you shave with a lightsaber?

DF Spoilers / Big Finale Ending Trilogy
« on: October 06, 2019, 11:22:04 PM »
So, how's it gonna end? Dresden dies doing the right thing, obviously. But too, his destiny to defeat the Outsiders plays big, I'm sure. And I have to believe that the failsafe on Demonreach goes off on Dresden's birthday, in combination with Kemler's Dark Hallow, and he gets a big ascension.

The White Council created the Ostentatiatory and didn't slide into warlockishness, so using magic for personal comfort or advancement isn't dangerous as far as Black Magic corruption. (But maybe it makes you into insufferable elitists.)

DF Books / Re: Laws of Magic Convenant
« on: September 01, 2019, 07:19:04 AM »
I like Luccio's explanation in Proven Guilty. The Laws are the maximum limits of what the WC can enforce without involving and conflicting with other alligences or jurisdictions. And it's the minimum which can be done to police its own people. The lines are stark as consequences are dire. So, I assume the self-inflicted damage done through violation of those laws (in the normal course of events) leaves a sort of behavioral pathway scar which creates a spiral of decreasing morality and cognizance. Not all violations leave such a scar, perhaps, but that is simply a confusing detail which the WC just as soon ignores.

DF Books / Re: How to use computers as a mage

Quite right. I have mused this myself.
A physical channel from wizard to keyboard over a long enough distance should be simple enough with levers or cables and pulleys or even just a long stick, really. And a good telescope to see a screen, or a really big projector, or both, or whatever. Touchscreen, trackball, or mouse get trickier, but still not unthinkable.
Captain Luccio has to have had similar notions. I have expected an internet research station to appear in White Council HQ for several books.

DF Books / Re: Jade Court of Vampires

I so speculate, because Butcher routinely says the White Court can pass as human under mist circumstances. What if the Jade Court is one more subversive level beyond that? It does make for a great survival trait. And if they were into cultural manipulation, rather than individual, they could feed off the zieghtgeist of whatever they proffered. Ancient Mai might have the White Council in thrall, albeit unknowingly, manipulating the whole society rather than particular members. If so, she certainly would regard any Black Council as a direct competitor. What if Peabody had been working for her crew, for instance? Multiple black interests add intrigue and I wouldn't put it past Butcher.

DF Books / Jade Court of Vampires

I have a theory that Ancient Mi (SP?) is actually a high ranking member of the Jade Court, vampires who I suspect drain the Will/Spirit/Soul, rather than lifeforce or blood.
Not entirely sure why I feel so certain, but so many of her reactions can play both this way and as more superficially demonstrated in the stories.
Thoughts?

For my part, I have seen Chris Hemsworth as Michael from the very start.
