DF Spoilers / Re: Unsolved Mystery Book15 Tuesdays with Hades
« on: November 14, 2017, 11:13:56 PM »
Personal curiosity primarily.   It is not as if Hades mentioned much that would not have been obvious in the moment or afterwards.   I think Hades just wanted to meet Harry - a person who he clearly feels some kinship of spirit.

Got to remember, these gods are people as well as beings of power - especially those greek gods.

Quick - what scene from the star trek episode could best work in the new universe.

best guess - in star trek the "dark" spock proved an ally.   My guess is that there will be  dark ally of Dark Harry that proved an ally.   Lash or Molly or Lea or who?

DF Spoilers / Re: Marcone Manipulating Harry.
« on: November 14, 2017, 11:08:40 PM »
I think Marcone uses Harry, but does not manipulate Harry.   If he got Harry to do things he otherwise would not do, then you have a case for manipulation.   But mostly Marcone sees Harry as a useful club against his own personal enemies.   It is that "I use my enemy to destroy my greater enemy" vibe.

Now I totally realize that Marcone gets supernatural and criminal street cred for "using" Dresden to destroy his enemies.

And realistically, Harry is not an enemy of Marcone.   Harry is, at best, a potential enemy IF and ONLY IF Marcone chooses to go down certain paths.   So long as Marcone avoids these paths (ie - dark supernatural stuff or lots of direct harm to innocents), Harry is not going to attack Marcone's interests.   And Marcone is not so petty as to resent Harry's strength when it does not come at his expense.     Harry can be an accidental threat in that his behavior can create a PR problem for Marcone, but Marcone has proven apt in navigating that hazard.

DF Spoilers / Re: Unsolved Mystery Book10 the disappearing coin trick
« on: November 14, 2017, 10:26:21 PM »
have to go along with Kindler on this one.

The other possibility is that one of them took the coin, without intending to "take" the coin.   I could totally see Marcone acquiring the coin, carefully placing it in some vault and leaving it there without ever letting anyone (including himself) touch the coin with flesh.   It is one of the few ways to harm the denarians as a whole after all - put a coin out of circulation.

The other possibility not discussed is that some spell (death curse...) triggered to send the coin to some pre-arranged spot.

Optimum time to oppose corpsetaker and/or otherwise succeed in what you can do.    Uriel can see probabilities, so he would make sure Harry returned with the best chance of a best outcome.   I suspect the timing was not completely under uriel's choice though -- I believe uriel had to work within the constraints of the "laws of magical physics".

Are we sure someone hired him?   Or was he just taking advantage of Morgan's disgrace to hunt him down.  It might have been simple enough for anyone of the black council to sent him word once Morgan escaped.   I suspect a lot of people would have known that Morgan killed a skinwalker.  I do not recall the skinwalker working closely with anyone else - and he would have been more effective if he had.

A bigger question for me is more general.  How did Morgan keep tabs on Harry?     Is it something so simple as checking him out for black magic taint every once in a while and keeping an eye out for supernatural/magic like murders?   Of did he use magic to track Harry.

However he did it, he did not identify that Harry had Bob the skull.

Other things
1) A meeting of key players - Bianca, the white court (derailed by Papa Raiths plans to kill his son), red court, black council --- it has to be hard for these players to get together without raising warning flags.  The party is a good excuse - although I expect the start of the war through those plans into a blender.

2) The dragon got a gift - is he also nemfected?

3) Lea was nemfected by her gift.

4) I wonder if the black council expected some other gift from Lea -- although the knights sword was probably welcomed...  That they would get a return gift was clearly known.

Harry has samples of Molly's hair and stuff from his days of training her.  Sarissa no doubt bled on the island as did molly - as did Maeve and Lilly.

So if the island was keeping samples, they have enough samples no matter how you run things to have some power of the Summer and Winter Ladies.

Not sure demonreach did though - it is not its purpose.

And the ladies are too weak as imortals run to have much impact on demonreach.  That island was meant to contain far stronger gods than the ladies.

DF Spoilers / Re: Knight Ceremony [Cold Case Spoilers]

I do not think the fact that Aurora used Slate to kill the summer knight proves anything conclusive.   I can think of several good reasons to do so even if Aurora could kill the her own knight.
1) It allows Aurora to honestly say "neither I nor anyone of summer was involved in this murder"
2) It tied Slate more closely to her cause
3) It emotionally distances her from the killing -- after all she probably knew the summer knight for decades and she probably considered him a friend.  As she was wack-a-doodle and a fanatic, she killed him anyway, but that does not mean she did not feel some guilt.
4) Any evidence left at the scene would point to winter
5) It is possible that Ruhl might have been able to get out a warning to Titania if he was attacked by Aurora.  But attacks by his winter knight counterpart are somewhat normal business.

I think there might be only two real requriements to get the winter mantle.
1) A queen who is holding the mantle's power decides to make you the winter knight
2) you accept.

My guess is that Lilly was tricked into accepting, but acceptance was pretty darn important to Mab which implies it is a critical step.

The only certainties are:
It cannot require killing the old knight -- as knights die in battle
It cannot require sex as the ladies cannot engage in sex, but can clearly can create knights
It does not require physical presence as harry became the night while his body physically resided in the church
It does require the action of a queen
The night must be mortal (guess, but believe it is solid)

In what book will we find out who fixed Little Chicago?
Probably not until 19 or 20.  Since I'm a lazy writer, probably 20. I think that would be good for the last of the case files, so I'll hold off on that one.

This suggests one possibility.   That Harry will not time travel until book 20.  if true, then it is probably what Harry does when time traveling that kicks off the final trilogy.   Fun explosions all the way down the timeline!

Or alternatively, is that spilled blood available to Harry.   I am certain Harry would gain great power over an immortal if he has that immortal's blood to play with.

DF Spoilers / Re: Mouse vs. Anduriel
« on: October 27, 2017, 07:54:52 PM »
My guess is that Mouse can attack Anduriel directly.  Remember, mouse has those glowing fangs that can cause damage to vampires that is hard to heal.  It is not a big stretch to speculate that Anduriel (who manefests as Nik's shadow) can be attacked directly by those fangs and hurt.

Not sure Mouse can kill Anduriel.  But I cannot imagine the fallen angel likes to feel pain.

Harry is a reincarnated Merlin, still "in process" of building Demonreach.   Reincarnation is what allows Merlin to create Demonreach at multiple points of time.  Harry (this version of Merlin) will complete demonreach stage 2 during the final trilogy.
