DF Spoilers / Re: Are there more wizards like Elaine?

Sure but we will never know if Ebenezar's influence could have saved his daughter, it never came up.

It appears that except for a select few, Rashid, LtW, and perhaps a couple more, the Council as a whole wasn't aware of Eb's relationship to either Margaret or Harry, if they had I think perhaps it would have turned out differently for Harry.

My point though, in the first couple of books Harry has an idealistic idea about magic thanks to Eb... That carried over to his view of the Council and being a member of the Council even if they did tend to treat him like crap...

Couple that with the fact that Murphy was Bob's custodian for awhile. It seems reasonable to assume that she could in the future gain access to him again.  Therefore gaining all the required checks on the mystery list.  And we all mostly agree that Proven Guilty likely will be revisited in the Time Travel book.  And we have time travel in Proven Guilty which ends with Murphy getting demoted for her absence while at Arctis Tor where she lost a day. Where best to have Murphy and allies inserted into Earth via time travel, where her/their earlier selves had to vacate a day on a trip to Arctis Tor.

But she wasn't Bob's custodian before the time that L.C. was fixed..  I don't agree that the events in Proven Guilty will be revisited in time travel...  Even if possible one of the rules of time travel is you cannot go back and alter stuff...  This sets off unintended consequences, yeah, you may be fixing one thing but you could be making something else a hundred times worse for a lot of people etc...  Then again, that would be very Harry like..

Margaret was never caught by the white council so Eb was never in a position to intervene at his daughters behalf. For that she first had to be caught.

But she was a member at one time I believe or at least as Eb's apprentice, part of it... Then she rebelled, so while she was never caught after she broke the more serious Laws that would cost her her head, she was part of it at one time.   Review the interaction between Harry and the Senior Council at the beginning of Summer Knight,  there is no mistaking there was former interaction between Margaret and the Senior Council.

That does not mean he can not influence things. He clearly does otherwise Mab wouldn’t have liked his style.

Given that he seemed to have a pretty negative view of the Council even /with/ his experience living with Eb, I'd assume that he'd be at least as distrustful if he'd learned about their idea of "justice" prior to being caught by it.  The real catch would be that he'd still need somebody to tell him about them ahead of time.  Which, now that you mention it, is a little conspicuous on Lea's part.  If she actually thought warning him against them was in his own best interest, she'd have been bound by her Godmotherly duty to warn him.  It's a little telling that she did did apparently believe that turning him over to them was the best thing for him, either to be taught by them or to simply learn to Survive them (or both).  But she must have had a reasonably strong confidence that they wouldn't actually kill him, or she'd have warned him when she had the chance.

That is what is odd, because even though the Council treated him like crap, he didn't rebel like his Mom..  Nor was his view of it entirely negative, his approach could be called a bit more passive/aggressive..

It was Mister who fixed L.C., not that he meant to, he did it accidentally by walking across it and
dropping cat hair in the right place.   Cats are good at that sort of thing.

I don't think Harry knew of the existence of the White Council prior to his arrest, I seem to remember him saying that.

One has to wonder about Harry though.   If he hadn't killed Justin, got caught and put under the Doom, and as a minor in the custody of Eb, wouldn't he also be avoiding the White Council and faking his abilities if he was tested?  I mean until he killed Justin and was captured by the Wardens, he didn't even know they existed.  The fact that he survived and was placed in the care of Eb, not only his grandfather [unknown at the time] but also highly placed/regarded on the Council would insure a favorable view of the Council..  If he learned about the Council from other points of view, he might well have avoided becoming a member. Or if he had earlier understood his mother's rebellion against them and their prejudice against him because of her, he may also have figured out a way to avoid becoming a member.

If she really can't cope with limited mobility in her leg after her injury, there's always that job offer with Monoc from Ms. Gard. That would come with their "great health plan" without enslaving her to a fallen. She's not in as bad a place to be tempted from as if it was coin or nothing.

But that offer was before she was injured...  I also doubt that even that job offer came without strings, especially if she because healed as a result.

Murphy becoming Molly's hand maiden for Harry's sake? Not bloody likely.

Totally agree..

I think Karen is vulnerable to one thing, Harry.  Her becoming part of Winter is most realistic to me in the sense she might get to be with him.  Hand maiden of Molly or something like that.

Vulnerable to Harry, perhaps, but she fears Winter more than Harry does, much of the distrust and fear she has felt, perhaps mostly fear stems from that.  Perhaps she'd reject the coin, but Nic knows her weaknesses... Consider how he tricked Harry into picking up Lasciel's coin bare handed without thinking to prevent little Harry from doing so.  In the end Harry rejected the coin but it took a while and Lasciel did fill a lot needs he had..  So don't be so quick to think that Murphy will reject it out of hand, she is only human after all.   Offer her her complete physical strength and speed plus more to help Harry in the fight?  She might think if Harry was able to resist the temptations  of a full partnership while benefiting, that she might also..   All I am saying is don't underestimate Nic, if there is a way to do it and screw Harry good, he will do it, Murphy would be the perfect pawn is all I am saying.. And who knows that strange dream Harry had in Skin Game of Murphy with Lasciel's coin could have just been a warning, but it might also be foreshadowing to be sprung on us in a later book.

Not to add to that, but why have we never seen Harry get magical medical attention when he gets banged up? Which is at least once a year. Always at home, always Butters because either he doesn't want to mess with the IC machines or because he doesn't want the gunshot wounds reported.

I think he did receive some in the infirmary fro HLWs at the end of Turn Coat.

The bracelet helped with the pain but didn't Eb rub some sort of cream all over the hand as well?  I don't remember but thought he did.  As for why he doesn't always use magical medication.  My guess would be that just like only one person on the Council can make enchanted swords, magical medicine is probably rare to come by and only specific people like LtW can even make it.
That too.

Thomas's demon came from somewhere.  I figured his father's demon provided some sort of material just like any parent would provide to create a life.  Maggie could have used that to go after Raith.  Either that or Thomas's blood or maybe she actually had stolen some sort of physical material from Raith herself.

Or maybe more to the point, Thomas had already been born, so the demon inside of him wouldn't be affected.   There is no evidence that the Hunger Demons themselves are linked..

How is this for revenge, he figures out a way to trick Murphy into taking it..  Depending on how her recovery is going she could be vulnerable now..  He managed to sucker Harry into picking Lasciel's coin, he might pull it off with Murphy..
