Well that would be an earth spell, so it seems easier to me just to make the ground "hump up" and throw you into the air, to land where you need to go. All Neutral buoyancy will get you is similar to spider climb. Safer, but slower.

Sorry, but where do you get that wizards pissed something big off back in the day and now water grounds out magic? ???

Based on magic in many worlds, its a fairly plausible reason. :) Doesn't mean its accurate here. Though, I do find it difficult to believe that wizards have such problems in rainstorms, or on the oceans. Or lakes.

She could be a Thunderbird or Garuda bird scion, in a "were form".

Considering the following from YS (393 and 394)
Frances Scot-Key bridge

Known to locals as the “Key Bridge,” this
bridge carries Interstate 695 across the Patapsco
River as part of the Baltimore Beltway. The
massive flow of the Patapsco River passing 185
feet below, combined with the vast distance to
solid ground on either side, tends to ground
magical energy; it is extremely difficult to
perform any sort of spellcasting on the bridge—
the massive river acts as a Great threshold.

While the bridge is not neutral ground, it
often serves as a meeting place for people who
want to minimize spellcasting during tense
discussions. The tollbooth supervisor, Ellsworth
Dillman, can arrange access to the maintenance
deck of the bridge—out-of-the-way spaces just
under the superstructure of each end of the main
span. These places are very suitable for private
discussions where magic should be suppressed.

So - Wizards and Oceans? No wizards sailed with the pirates?

What massive natural power did Wizards piss off "back in the day" which so disrupts magic over water?

glamours is a -2 power that only lets you do veils and change small things about your personal appearance.  It is no where near the stuff that evocation or channeling can do, and you have no reason to worry about it being overpowered.  So no, don't give mental stress to a character using it.  It is balanced as is.

Small things? Like make a 12 foot tall ogre wearing only a loin cloth appear as a large human in an old suit and hat? Who was, when so glamoured, able to fit through doors that he couldn't at full size without cracking the frame?

Actually, the dwarves being vulnerable to the metal that they work with would certainly be possible. Humans work with deadly substances all the time. It might even be a point of pride with the weaponsmiths.

DFRPG / Thalia Grace - (Percy Jackson), her shield
« on: July 10, 2010, 08:40:32 PM »
Thalia Grace, from the Percy Jackson series, wields a collapsible copy of Aegis. I.E, a shield. It has a very realistic engraving of the medusa head on it. It doesn't turn anyone to stone, or anything. But, foes don't like it, meaning (to me, anyway) that it either has an intimidation attack of its own, or somehow augments Thalia's intimidation.

How would you model this aspect of the shield? Simply give it an aspect "Scary shield" which can be tagged to apply to an entire zone?

And if anyone wants to write up the shield, that would be cool too.  :)

DFRPG / Maximum length of the tracks?

What is the maximum length of the various tracks, and where in the books is that referenced?

I LIKE splat books - especially fluffy ones, with discussions of the mechanics behind the game. I would LOVE to see a yearly splat book.

Also magic - I could use more spell examples. I haven't grokked that yet.

Oh, dear.  The GM has informed me that taking 'Reap the Whirlwind' will most likely end up with my character killing a party member.

Just as an aside, I think your GM is exercising a bit too much control over your aspects. Remember that under the RAW, he isn't the one who gets to decide what taken out means. Of course, how to diplomatically state this would be a challenging roll of your social skills....

You could also have all the PC's have their aspects written down on a notecard, or folded character sheet, and propped up in front of them. That would make for easy eyeballing during the game.

Thank you all for the replies.

And many thanks for the links.

Another, related question.

Lets say an Thug1 puts a "blinded" aspect on hero1. Yet Thug1 has no fate points.  After that first free tag, how does the blinded aspect effect hero1? Is it up to the GM to enforce blinded with compels? If the GM does nothing, does hero1 fight as effectively as he would unblinded, because there are no fate points in play?
