DF Spoilers / Storm Front in Peace Talks...
« on: July 20, 2020, 02:25:31 PM »
Just a little Easter egg, but when Harry sees what he looks like to the Outsiders:

Quote from: Peace Talks
... a being made of coherent light, a column of glowing energy centers, and pure dread, standing like an obelisk before the cornerhounds, a bolt of terrible lightning gathered around its upraised fists, head, and shoulders, like a miniature storm front.

It's perhaps noteworthy that the one time she does "beat" Freydis, her victory is based on her willingness to die to win.

If she dies in Battleground, it seems likely that she'll go out in suicide-bomber style -- not a good end in Catholicism, but perhaps honored by Valhalla.

The Outsiders seem to have always had lots of mortal practitioners. See: three full circles of ritual casters in Cold Days.

And although the White Council's official position denies it, we know they've got Cowl too.

And then there's the question of what the Fomor have been doing with all the minor mortal practitioners they've been gathering...

If Mac is Ethnui’s husband, can that be used against the Titan? Turn the Battle into a domestic dispute? As a distraction.

Or a way to lure her to the Island, or into a prepared circle...

It's not stupidity -- it's Pride.

Murphy really, really needs a good talking-to from Michael.

Does it have to be a fully human mortal?

In Skin Game, we saw Nic giving a coin to Blood on His Soul (aka the Genoskwa) and offering one to Grey.

Could River Shoulders take up the sword for a bit?

Perhaps they have been running a con for many, many years, Ferro turns up and terrorises an area, only for a dragonslayer (Odin) to step forward and ‘slay’ the dragon. A grateful populace showers wealth on Odin which he splits with Ferro who is very much alive.

I love this. If it's not true, it should be.

Re: Hecate...

The six queens of fairy are all pieces of Hecate, with the bulk of the goddess's power vested in the Mothers. Hecate intact would be vastly greater than Mab alone.

Also, I think Hecate was a goddess, not a titan, though I'm not sure how formal the distinction is.

So... it's probably nothing, but reading about Ethniu's dad, Balor, on Wikipedia, I came across a character named Mac Kineely.

The story is that Balor stole Mac's magic cow of plenty. There was a prophecy that Mac couldn't get the cow back while Balor was alive, but that Balor could only be killed by his grandson. In order to fulfill the prophecy and get his magic cow back, Mac is transported by one of the fairy folk to the tower where Balor was keeping his daughter sequestered (to prevent a grandchild and the fulfillment of the prophecy). Mac seduces the daughter and gets her pregnant. The grandson kills Balor and Mac gets his cow back.

The daughter's name: Ethniu.

Could Mac Kineely be Dresden's favorite bartender, MacAnally?

I do think Thomas will *eventually* take up the sword, but I'm not sure he's ready yet, although...

One of the theories of the English Prisoner is that he's Arthur, and it's believed that Amoracchius was Excalibur. And it seems like Harry set it up so Thomas and the English Prisoner could talk, in a place where not even Anduriel can listen in.

Perhaps one of them (Arthur or Thomas) will be taking up Excalibur soon.

Definitely less than Murphy.

Murphy made a sword vulnerable by mistake.

Lara has extremely strong motives to want to see the Sword of Love destroyed on purpose. Love is the White Court's Bane -- their kryptonite. Putting the ruler of the White Court in a position to destroy one of the greatest weapons against her and her court is a big, big temptation.

There are three groups watching and Gary and Gray.  Cowl or Marcone is the cops.  I make the FBI for the MIB, and the last group is Lara's people. Right or wrong that's Harry's candidates.

Plus Eb. Harry shows up to look for someone keeping an eye on Justine. He spends an hour and a half looking for magical surveillance, finds nothing, and then has Eb decloak at his rear and call him an idiot for not spotting him.

Eb has a plausible explanation for why he's there, but he's also perfectly capable of hiding himself from Harry (as he did) and if it had been any other wizard veiled near Justine's place he would have jumped to the top of the list.

Alternative theory: The White Council was spying on Justine, which means Martha Liberty's spy network and scrying spells way, way too subtle for Harry to spot them. And it probably means Liberty alerted Eb to his former apprentice skulking around at Justine's place.

Re: Contemplation Protocol

Quote from: Peace Talks
There was one prisoner held below in a kind of unique stasis, something that could most closely be considered sleep, though he could also awaken and perform limited communications for short periods of time. It was, as best as I could understand, the only protocol with sanity-saving sleep built into it.

...

"Contemplation," I responded quietly. "He is to be shielded from any communication with other prisoners not enduring the same protocol."

It seems likely that the "one prisoner" is the British prisoner from the start of Skin Game, and that Harry, for some reason, wants that prisoner to be able to speak to Thomas. Otherwise, he could have just said "He is to be shielded from any communication with other prisoners."

269
Could Lara be trusted with a sword, though, even just for the night?

No I think that the placard announces things to the world...

Is that just speculation, or is there some information out there on that?

I was thinking the placard might have something to do with Naming -- either summoning the being whose name or title is written on it, or perhaps binding a multi-mantle individual into one of her aspects.
