DF Spoilers / Re: How hard did Ebenezar try to kill Lord Raith?
« on: June 22, 2021, 10:57:54 PM »
Or if he really is an Outsider in the guise of Lord Raith, he isn't going to be easy to kill because he no longer exists.

I think outsider mental processes are too alien for them to successfully carry off an impersonation in a court that's hyper-attuned to behavioural nuances for thirty-some years.

Yeah, I'm inclined to think if Eb said he tried to kill him.. HE TRIED TO KILL HIM, no half measures..

And yet, Chateau Raith hasn't been reduced to a smoking crater by any satellite impacts.

I don't doubt his sincerity, but he may have had to take some tactics off the table if they would have been blatant enough to cross the line from settling the scores on a personal vendetta into violating the Accords and starting a war. Significant collateral damage to other whampires probably would have done that.

I doubt that Kumori is Margaret. Her manner with Dresden is more like an old friend, admirer, ex-lover etc. I certainly hope it isn't his mother (ew). But she doesn't treat him like a parent would a child anyway, even an estranged parent.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I'm on the Elaine bandwagon.

DF Spoilers / Re: Marcone could probably beat Harry in a duel.

While he has shown some advanced defensive magics, he has not demonstrated a single offensive ability beyond enchanting single-shot muskets. Unless he's got a lot more hidden away, Harry can laugh at his attacks behind his shield and wear him down.

Even Hand explained that what he's doing with the antique guns is enchanting them to punch through shields. Looking obsolete is camoflage for how dangerous they really are.

DF Spoilers / Re: I wonder how long Raith has had his protection.
« on: June 19, 2021, 03:23:59 AM »
I assume before, because Maggie had to do something clever and indirect instead of overtly destructive. She probably knew what she was getting around.

Seeing as it's powered by anchoring to her two sons, I wonder if her clever trick was that one of the batteries was Lord Raith's son and the other was a latent Starborn. It would make a degree of sense, especially if the sponsor was indeed an Outsider. It would be interesting to see if Harry can tag Lord Raith directly now that he's (mostly?) activated as a Starborn, and Eb's reaction if so.

It's deeper than that.  They Sidhe are connected to many things people do believe in.  The Winter and Summer Courts are actually tied to humans belief in weather events.  That being said, the Brothers Grimm were trying to come up with a way to cut ties to the NeverNever I think.

The reverse. In Backup Thomas mentioned that the Venatori had been trying to get the Faerie pantheons forgotten, but the Grimms' work in compiling  the folk stories and Gutenberg's printing press spread them beyond the Venatori's capacity to tamp down.

It's actually a fairly interesting bit of lore, because kneecapping Winter would have been a terrible idea to go through with. Either the Archive passed that order in ignorance of Faerie's cosmic importance, or her command and control over the Venatori subject to infiltration.

Well I think Carlos completely understands what happened between him and Molly wasn't Harry's fault.

Not personally. But it was a hard lesson in 'what Winter turns people into' that he would have misinterpreted even worse than it was.

I don't think he was lucid enough to overhear Mab's explanation. As far as he's concerned, Molly was probably getting off on luring him into a hotel room and beating him within an inch of his life.

Here is what seems to be contradictory to me from Drakul ""I would tell you to ask of your own White Council what they aren't telling you, what they bred you for, and what they expect you to do"
This just doesn't seem correct...  Maggie was considered crazy by the Council, I don't see the Council trusting her with something like this, and yet based on what Drakul said, it sounds like the White Council was behind Harry being born.

Drakul is so far above mortals he probably doesn't pay a lot of attention to the difference between a cabal of shady wizards (Maggie, Justin, possibly Cowl and Peabody and some other unsavory buddies) and the official Council. Some wizards trying to instigate a starborn? Must be a Council weapons-breeding program. As a baddie, it's natural to assume other supernatural nation-states do evil thing on an official capacity, rather than a rogues gallery.

I'd assume Harry's stock is in the tank with most of the wardens, for the same reason Butters' faith in him was shaken.

As the Fomor rose up, he took no hand in helping fight the good fight. I'm not sure it's public knowledge among the wardens that he killed the Reds and opened the niche for the fomor, but if so, that's all the worse.

And he's never explained to any of them why he was indisposed even after coming back from the almost dead, so he never got a chance to settle things like he did with Butters.

And of course Molly then becomes MAB later. So she killed herself, somehow, and later travels back in time. At which point early-Harry/Merlin will cast her out to become the cold Mab from the current still-human Molly.

Then how would Corb remember her as, apparently, a teenager? She's already twenty-something.

Maeve and Sarissa were the product of Mab and some other Winter Knight's mating.

There was a WOJ that their father was a "famous Austrian composer" ... and I don't think any of them went down in history as notably brutal figures.

I only do whole book rereads, but the part that always makes me smile would have to be Sue. Who doesn't love a fine bit of rules-lawyering?

You could be right, however I don't know if he'd want to go against the Council, and he said himself he doesn't believe he is qualified on his own.  It could be he meets with Martha, Eb, and Rashid and makes the decision  to tell.

Martha wasn't injured. Unless she just didn't make it back to Edinburgh - in which case, who ratted him out over killing the turtlenecks? - the unanimous vote to put him on capital probation implies his display with the little folk and his actions during the battle scared her enough to flip her vote against him.

Eb is probably also going to be outright adversarial once the engagement to Lara gets announced.

Rashid is the only one of their pseudo-bloc on the Senior Council who would probably still speak in Harry's favor to LtW, assuming he's even one of the ones LTW felt obliged to consult. I'd bet River Shoulders is another outside the Council, so training with him to establish further trust would probably be a step in the right direction toward being clued in.

If I had to guess I'd say it goes - Outsider/Old One war, War in Heaven, Titan/gods war.

Seems likely. Although from the context in SG of talking about wars fought before the earth even existed, I would take it that particular comment was referring to the Old Ones and the Fallen rebellion ... I think any conflict with the pagan pantheons would have been after.

I tend towards the opinion that someone who makes a point to hunt down and destroy the Church's records on him every few centuries to remain mysterious to his adversaries probably isn't going to be openly wearing his real identity as a recorded biblical figure.

He probably appropriated the name as some mix of deflecting from his actual identity and a dark joke.
