Eh. It seems to me this was a battle where Heaven and Hell were on the same side. After all, Marcone gave Harry the blood he needed.

Well, at least Marcone was at the time, Chicago is his city.

well j calls Drakul something monstrous stuck in human form. Doubt he's strictly a vampire. Though. His  son was the one
 Who
Made the BC. Though I do find it intriguing that Drakul can make undead vampires even if maybe he,'s not one himself. I assume his son was the King 👑 of  the BC. Will be interesting to hear to their backstory. And if Jim does a strictly BC book then Kincaid HAS to be involved since he might be something similar to his former boss himself. A scion of a human and something monstrous. Though to be fair we don't know if Drakul is really a scion.

But I don't think anything was said about him being a member of the Black Council.. Again lots of talk about, but no substance as to whether or not it really exists.. Oh I think there is some kind of connection, or at least perhaps some of the factions have was looks like the same aims but that doesn't mean they are part of a group called the Black Council.

If you want to know what the council fears, look at what Butcher has done with Harry.  He controls a prison that is so dangerous that it has a fail safe designed to destroy the Great Lakes area. He accepts no judgement but his own.  He has a temper of epic proportions and if provoked could  commit murder with magic and would feel no guilt while doing so. He committed genocide.  I think that covers the bases.

I wouldn't sit next to him on a bus and if I  lived in Chicago I would move to Miami. 8)

I think it's a bit of an exaggeration.  Harry accepts Michael's judgement for the most part, he did trust Murphy's until she died, I think he'd trust Mac as well.  He has shown moderation in his judgement as far as the prison and handling the artifacts go.  Yes, he totally lost it after he saw the woman he loved senselessly gunned down, which is understandable.

I might be wrong, but who or what the "Black Court" is has never really been spelled out.  In the beginning Harry called them that, then wasn't that changed to "the Circle" or something like that in later books?  We know they are bad asses, but just who and with whom they are allied with, is mostly a mystery. Lots of guesses, but no one really knows

Both of those are intriguing characters. I hope we get a talk to talk. Between Listen or Harry..mayhaps to team up to take down Corb.. With Ethnui binded , I think it's a only matter of time before King Toad tried to assassinate him..I do realize that Harry buried Listen underneath an Land Tsnumami but he's too important a character to just kill off like that: Now that we know that he is Starborn.

My hope is that he comes seeking Dresden's help to take out Corb
. Hopefully we see him in 12 months to tell Harry alittle about being Starborn and just what the heck the Stars and Stones are?

What would be even better is a SB team up ----- Listen ,Harry,Drakul , Elaine ( or was that just a theory)  and God knows who else..

I don't see that happening.  If anyone changes his or her spots in my opinion, it will be Nic.  He has already lost a lot of prestige in Skin Game, but more importantly the Grail if Michael is right, [and he seldom is in these matters] will eventually have an profound affect on Nic.  Following the old Chinese proverb, " be careful for what you wish for, you might get it."

but there it is.  I reckon you 'gazed him, Hoss, but it ain't a lie detector.  You know that too.,

But that is a more complicated answer than it appears to be.  So while a soul gaze isn't a lie detector, it might be able to reveal that the person being gazed is the type of person who is prone to lying.  I also think that to be an accurate soul gazer takes a lot of experience because there is a lot of nuance to it.

An experienced subject is also able to hide a lot of facts about his or herself, especially if the person doing the gazing is totally inexperienced at it.  Best example is Eb and Harry, Eb seemed to know exactly what sixteen year old Harry was about, but sixteen year old Harry saw nothing as far as Eb being his grandfather, or that Eb was the White Council's hit man.

Quote
(3)  Harry is the Adult, not the Toddler

While I like the toddler with a gun metaphor, in this metaphor Demonreach is the toddler, not Harry.  Demonreach is sort of a super-natural Bam-Bam from the Flintstone's cartoon.  Harry is the adult, because his threat assessment and response software is more calibrated.

I totally agree with this point especially, also neither Hades or Uriel would give a nuke rattle to a toddler..

Starborn appear to have a duality, that of the Starborn but also the Destroyer, they can destroy mankind as well as save it. That was Morgan’s fear, Justin had already gotten to Harry and maybe turned him to Destroyer. Which is why he was so hard on Harry.

I don't know, so far only Harry has shown any sign of duality.

But that is double subjectivity. First there is the soul gaze itself and then there is the merlin communicating it. Maybe the Korean boy could have been saved.

Perhaps, that is an interesting scene because the Merlin is trying to assure Harry that the kid was unredeemable,  but at the same time expressing with extreme prejudice, that the answer for most of the kids that begin down that road is the chop.

Harry may be the exception that proves the rule as they say.

It’s actually listed in Elaine’s page of the Dresden Wiki.

Jim definitely had “The Lady of Shalott” in mind when creating the character, she died alone and untouched in her tower of unrequited love when Lancelot passed her over (Elaine Lilian (The Lily is a sign of purity in the poem and wider)Mallory) here this Elaine survived both Harry and his love. Not to be confused with the other Elaine in Mallory’s Morte d’ Arthur, who was Galahad’s mum (or is it, does Harry have an adult son by Elaine (who wasn’t pure and untouched) who will take the Grail from Nicky?)

Except I wouldn't call Elaine a case of unrequited love.. It is pretty clear in the first books, and Harry makes it clear that she was his first love, and that they experimented sexually.

Justin was an ex Warden and knew Bob was on the most dangerous artefacts list (below the Eye of Balor, The Spear, The Shroud, The Crown, The Placard and Excalibur) which in no way should be in the possession of an individual wizard. Ever. So he didn’t tell anyone in the White Council.

He may have told whoever he was working for but the people he was working for weren’t very nice, abducting children, so I doubt he told them about his Ace in the Hole

That does leave a bit of a plot hole, because supposedly Justin told no one he had Bob because as Luccio told Harry in Small Favor I believe, it was illegal to possess Bob and that he should be destroyed because if I remember correctly no one outside of the Host of the Archive should have access to that much information.  Harry knew about Bob and perhaps Elaine might have as well because he eavesdropped when Justin was getting information from Bob.

Elaine could be suspect because she might be infected with Nemesis, the general theory is she carried the infection to Aurora when she fled after Justin died.  We've seen how hosts infected by Nemesis act, assuming that Cowl is playing for the same team as Nemesis, it could very well have been her that told Cowl.  Another simpler explanation is Cowl followed Harry or had Kumori follow Harry after their encounter in Dead Beat because he thought Harry had or knew the where a bouts of Kemmler's book, which he also wanted so he could do Darkhallow.  Harry took Bob with him to Murphy's house, Cowl followed, saw the skull and immediately knew what it was, and took Bob.

Much more nuanced, a character who is DED thought Elaine was a Starborn according to Jim. Everyone was looking for Harry who dropped off the face of the Earth because of who he was, a wizard Starborn. If everything else fails why not put a fake out there to see who took the real thing? You need a child of approximately the right age with magical ability, you can fudge the records on the former, and the child’s memory, but not the latter.

Justin may have used the Walker to help enslave Elaine, which proved she was NOT Starborn, she wasn’t immune to their influence.

Do you have the exact WOJ?  I remember vaguely the quote that she could be one.  I am not so sure that she isn't since they keep popping up these days.  Yes, it appears she was vulnerable to enthrallment, but in Summer Knight supposedly she went along with Aurora when she was ordered to tie up Harry to be dealt with later.  If you will remember Harry escaped and later Elaine told him she had planned it that way and used the same knot she used when Justin ordered her to tie him up, so he could escape him.  But that gets weird in my opinion, because how the enthrallment went down in Harry's memory was different in Ghost Story.

Yes, but given the inherent subjectivity… how much good hard objective data really comes from a “soulgaze”?

Apparently a lot as far as the White Council is concerned.. Let's not forget that a Warden is required to do a soul gaze on a defendant, then give testimony about what he or she saw in a trail that could cost the defendant his or her head.  Also the Merlin, in Proven Guilty told Harry that he, himself soul gazed the Korean Kid and that he was not redeemable, thus deserved the chop.

Apparently in WOJ in 2010, Justin DuMorne thought Elaine might be a Starborn like Harry.

This may suggest he didn’t have Elaine’s exact date and time of birth, but her apparent age and general background may have made him suspect this, whereas with Harry he definitely knew. But what if his suspicions were incorrect? Someone fudged things and placed Elaine as a candidate for Justin to find, as bait? One of the other players using a fake Starborn to find Harry (the real deal) when neither his grandfather nor Morgan could find him?

Could Elaine Mallory have been the Merlin’s plant? And he still lost her? It would explain why no one looked for her from the White Council, too many inconvenient questions would have arisen about the Merlin using a 10 year old girl as bait.

This theory allows Jim to lie/not lie and confuse the issue as to Starborn, which is exactly what it has done for the last 12 years.

Elaine’s medallion? Set dressing and perhaps a magical tracking device.

I don't think that Jim lied twelve years ago, he just wasn't committing himself one way or the other, keeping his options open for her.  She still could be star born, they seem to be popping up like mushrooms in the last couple of books.
