DF Spoilers / Re: "It is not yet your hour."

Basically that is what Langtry tried to pull in Proven Guilty, when he wanted Molly convicted, claiming he had proxies for the Senior Members missing, when he never even consulted them on how they wanted to vote.

Sure, but it's one thing to make a personal call against a random teenage warlock. Taking advantage like that to expel a member who's still popular with slightly less than half of the rest of the Council is quite another. It's borrowing a lot of political trouble for another day.

Langtry has enough political acumen to have a pretty good idea if he's got the votes among the general membership to kick Harry before the voting even opens. Letting it be decided by the open membership gives him more cover against 40-odd percent of the membership thinking he personally railroaded someone they regard well.

I don't think it is as open as you think, I think Eb meant with other Senior Members.  The reason I think that is back in Summer Knight when they tried to demote Harry back to apprentice, only the Senior Members actually voted.. The rest of the members just witnessed it.. Molly's trial, again only the Senior Members got to vote, remember Langtry claimed to have a proxy for all of them.  Also if everyone got a vote, don't you think Harry would have asked Carlos how he voted?

Carlos said on the way into the summit that he'd voted in Harry's favour, though.

I suppose Langtry could have pulled rank to move if from an open council vote to Senior only based on the rule Eb used in SK that any senior councilor can move a vote from open to senior council only, but but there's nothing in Carlos' accounting of how it went to indicate that happened. It would have been poor politics on his part to have an expulsion vote decided only by himself and Ancient Mai.

Majority?  Really? Four of the Senior members were either in surgery or still off defending the Outer Gates..

No, majority of the open council membership. The expulsion vote came first and was open to all members. That's why Ebenezar was advising in PT that Harry should go to Edinburgh and shake some hands with the other members to reassure them before they voted on him, before everything went pear-shaped.

According to Carlos, it was the suspended capital sentence for roasting turtlenecks that the Merlin decided behind closed doors with Ancient Mai (and, I assume, Martha Liberty). That came after the expulsion vote passed.

I personally assumed she was one of the unflappable Harry's command over the Little Folk disturbed. She has extensive contacts among the spirits and loa- she is the one most likely to know of some rising Za Lord but not know who it was

The expulsion was by majority vote, not just SC. Though my read on it is she was the most likely to have reported him killing the turtlenecks to trigger the death sentence by SC vote, but probably also the primary mover for getting it suspended instead of passed. I think you're right - she's rattled and wants a tighter leash on him.

I can see the same thing happen to Marcone, and at some point I can see him rejecting the coin.. Who knows Jim may go back to one of his earlier ideas, Marcone, Holy Knight..  Now wouldn't that be a shock.

I figure that's for the Mirrorverse.

Possibly...  Remember as wizards they can keep a connection to the Coin the way Harry did with Lash.  They could summon the Coin the same way Harry could have if he chose.

Isn't the whole point of the Church's blessed handkerchiefs and warded lockboxes to prevent the other side from teleporting them back into circulation?

Though the Church has been leaking them out of safekeeping faster than they should. I suppose it's possible one of the ones the Knights and Forthill think is on ice actually got into a wizard's hands. Perhaps the window might extend back a bit before SmF.

One has to wonder though, was the reason for no White Council representation at the important meeting
following the battle due to his failure not to show up at the peace talks?

Harry's narration was pretty clear about that - they were freezing the Council out because they weren't confident where the self-appointed protectors of humanity would stand on supernatural nations and freeholding lords preparing for war against the vanillas.

They'd have to have come by them fairly recently, since as of SmF all 30 were accounted for as either in custody, active, or in the bag Tessa and Rosanna grabbed.

he took up Thorned?  I ask because Lasciel really didn't seem to buff him up that much.  Same for her next host...

Lash the shadow didn't buff Harry that much because her whole game was 'the first taste is free' to convince him to take up the coin for more.

She did a lot for Hannah in the abilities she provided for fighting the Fomor and getting through the gate of fire. She was still throwing around a lot of power in the vault fight; they only lost that because the fallen and the host both let their anger get the best of them.

DF Spoilers / Re: Marcone and Nicodemus allies?

Well when you put it like that lol.  I guess what has me wondering is even though some of the Fallen are in more of a partnership with their host, they would want to drive the host to some sort of direction..  I don't think Thorned wants to be with Marcone just to chill.  I'd imagine he wants Marcone to achieve some goal of some kind.  I'm wondering if these goals align with what Nic wants or the opposite of what Nic wants.

Even if they are both after the same goals for the greater glory of Hell and the consternation of the Outsiders, I doubt Namshiel would be displeased to see Anduriel stripped of his host and set back to time zero with a new dixie cup host. A great deal of his influence among the 30 seems to stem from the one who's been active continuously since they were put in the coins.

I believe it's because there was a race against the Kemmlerites wasn't there?

He didn't decide to shut it down once Harry and Carlos had killed Corpsetaker and Grevane, though. He decided to take it over anyway.

The "only trying to do it to stop either of the other two from completing it first" talk was his propaganda to make himself look not so bad to Harry and Kumori.

192
Well he did have the chops in the end, he just went and tried to keep Harry alive yet again for some reason and that mercy cost him.

We know the stated reason is that his death curse might spoil the workings of the spell...but I am not so sure that was it. He clearly could handle death curses.

Cowl has also been running around for, what, something between 5-10 years from DB to the present period of the story with the knowledge of how to do a Darkhallow, and he hasn't tried again somewhere else.

Seems fishy, yeah. I'd hope there's a Watsonian reason for that, and it's not just a Doylist convenience that the antagonist is only doing anything when he's on page.

DF Spoilers / Re: So Nicodemus wanted the Eye?
« on: June 23, 2021, 08:34:33 PM »
I wonder if Nicodemus had planned on getting the Eye, and that's what Skin Game was about.  Either a trade, or using the Holy Relics to defeat Ethniu, and get the Eye for himself...

Given she dismissed them as "trinkets of the redeemer" I don't think she'd have been in the market for that trade. He'd have killed her for loot if he got a shot, but I'm not sure targeting her was his reason for wanting the items.

DF Spoilers / Re: What does this mean?

What you quote is from Blood Rites, from an angry injured young wizard who has discovered the murderer of his mother.. That is a nasty quote, he felt that, but it was impotent, he didn't kill a mouse with an elephant gun, his efforts had no effect on Lord Raith..

Interesting hypothetical ... What if Harry was intuiting something correct there? He's stated a couple times that vampire sorcerors and necromancers draw on a different and darker power source than regular wizard life/emotion magic. I wonder if the protection Raith is benefiting from extends to attacks based on dark energy?

Could Margaret's insight in cursing him successfully just have been something like Kumori's philosophy that the cold dark greasy energy source doesn't inherently have to be used for evil ends?

So you're suggesting the Library of Congress would convince the US Military to start throwing about drone strikes on US soil against Civilian targets because "Trust us guys, Vamires and Wizards are for real."

I don't think that's going to fly.

I'd be surprised if they don't have capabilities to pull off a successful version of the "just tell the feds it's terrorists" option that Murphy suggested for dealing with the Denarians in SmF.

Heck, they even might have bureaucromancer'ed themselves an off-the-books drone squadron of their own.
