The idea with low lore was to have a character that is not so knowledgeable about the supernatural. With an aprentice wizard and a emassary of power in the group there is place for a not so supernatural experienced character.

DFRPG / Lutki/Pastry Magic
« on: June 22, 2011, 03:57:22 PM »
Howdy,

one of my players decided to change her character to a Lutki Changeling. Lutki are small gnomish fey from our local folklore.
In a previous adventure the death of the baker that gave them bread drove them into a fury and they used their limited magic to make all the bread and pastries in the city disapear.

My player likes the idea of pastry magic to create potion cookies. This would be the Ritual ability (like Cobblers have).
I on the other hand would like it if she could use Craftmanship to determine the strengh of her potions. Should this cost her a point of Refresh (swap skill stunt) or should i give this to her for free ?
Craftmanship seems to be a weaker ability anyway so i think she would get this for free. Paying 3 Refresh should give her a limited form of sponsored magic in my mind.

Your thoughts ?

DFRPG / Stating a Plane
« on: June 02, 2011, 06:55:54 PM »
Hello DFRPG-Fans

on the next session the party will find attend a party on an old german airport that is now a museum for old planes.
I have planned the session two be 50% roleplay with people at the party and 50% action as one of the old planes will attack everyone on sight.

Reason for that is an army of Spirits of Technology (especially Mass Destruction) trying out their powers for the first time. They are adept at controlling technology and altering or improving it. Besides their ability to controll technology they also gifted on of the museums staff with incredible technological knowledge and "magic" (it mainly works like the WAAAGH!!! - field of Warhammer 40k Orks. Making technology work because they think it does)

But how do i stat out a freaking plane ? I'm thinking about using the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focke-Wulf_Fw_190 )

I want it to at first drive arround on the ground, shooting at people and giving the PCs opportunity to jump on it. Than it will take to the sky and begin to fire from the air.

My group consist of a Werecat and two Evocators on refresh level 7. I want to make it hard for them. The werecat character said that she is considering changing her character so i can provide her with a good death scene.
I think the spirit will make the plane resistend against hexing, maybe giving it an own Stress Track for that...

Do you have any ideas ?

DFRPG / Re: When you want Bob without the Bob

In terms of game mechanics, this item would play out almost exactly like Bob would, except that there would probably be fewer romance novels involved.

You say it like that's a good thing...

My groups wizard did summon up a mist-spirit last session and as a reward for helping him he offered the spirit a  water pipe  to live in.
I want to make that spirit into a jamaican, stoner like personality that can be bribed with dope.

It's something like Bob but with a really different feel

DFRPG / Your take on a Autumn and Spring Court ?
« on: May 16, 2011, 09:42:25 PM »
The Autumn (and to a lesser degree) Spring Court seem to be concepts a lot of DFRPG players find intriguing and interesting, what is your take or idea on them ?

As we know Summer and Winter are related to Life and Death, so for my Dresdenverse it was only logical to make Spring about Chaos and Anarchy and Autumn about Order. Of course we have a lot of order (bount to oaths, allways speak the truth etc.) and chaos in fey society but this courts exemplified this. The autumn court was like a perfect totalitarian state while the "rulers" of spring where only called that because they where the strongest. Both system had their flaws (unorganized/unflexibility) that brought them their doom. We know have aspects of Spring and Autumn in the other two courts.

What do you ?

5 shifts and a weapon 5. So a 10 stress hit normaly.

The power 4 block reduces this to 1+5 stress.

To defend the PC has to get at least 2 shifts because that would completely negate the attack ( -1 shift ). If she only rolls 1 succes he still has 0 shifts and so his weapon connects. and he still does 5 stress.

Did i get everything right ?

From a different perspective though it is kind of a jerk move to say "I know you have been spending every exchange trying to cripple him but now he's missing an ear because I say so."

That was what i was thinking too.

On a sidenote. The troll has a weapon 5 (i think from the top of my head attack. When he get's 5 shifts it's still a 1 shift above the block.
Let's say the werecat detective rolls 6 succeses against him. Does hi still apply his weapon damage ? If not, when does he do ?
*goes now and rereads the section on weapons*

But still, the kind of attack i'm doing directly relates to the kind of consequence that is taken right ? Attacking someone with a sword will lead to "minor bleeding" or "my guts are hanging out" while an attack with fists and bare knuckles will lead to "black eye" or "concussion".

Can a player with his attack say "I attack his leg" and every round do the same so that eventually the enemy has to take a leg-related consequence or can i declare "The troll blocks your sword with his nose and takes the "hole in my face" consequence" ?

You get a defensive action against a grapple which is what a chain of spirit is, and given the strength modifier he would get out each turn.

Let's say my PC has a Minigun and a looooooot of ammo and makes a block "I shoot at his bunker position the whole time so that he is only safe in his bunker and can't get out or shoot at us"

It's the same thing "block against aggressive actions" (using the Guns skill) and it's no Grapple.

A Grapple is a Grapple when it's envoked with an aspect and used to inflict damage, everything else is just a block.
or at least that is how i understand it.

My player is essentialy giving up his round to neutralise the danger of an NPC. This is okay i guess but really strong when there is only one enemy.
