OK I'm not going to make NaNoWriMo, but I'm at least going to start a story.
However, I am putting off writing my original story idea for NaNo because it takes place on a movie set, and I have NO IDEA how movies are made! (So much for write what you know, eh?)
Is there anyone out there familiar with movie making or who knows a good reference that I can read to learn about movies? Caveat to that statement--I am living in Germany at the moment and cannot get to a big-chain bookstore, but I can order stuff online.
Thanks in advance!

I'm an indie filmmaker. I'd be happy to answer your questions.

I just heard of NaNoWriMo a few days ago... I wish had more time in my life to join in on this.

NaNo does exactly what it was meant to do--get you to write something, anything, even if it sucks. My problem has always been a lack of focus. I can START several stories, but I'm terrible at outlining, and even if I do I tend to veer off course anyway. I've only done it once, and didn't make the word count because I veered off course and didn't know where to go.
I ended up not doing it this year because I am working a weird schedule, plus I got about 500 words in and realized I needed at least a semblance of a plan before I could get anywhere, and I didn't have one. The two clearest stories in my head are the one about making a movie and one about privateers that I've now started to write twice but haven't finished yet because I'm just not sure where it's going. It's times like these that I wish I was better at outlining and planning the stories in my head, but invariably I just get scenes to the stories, not outlines.

What do you need to know?
A few things:
Foley Artist: Not the guy who draws Eddie Murphy. It's the Sound FX guy.
Grip: Not slang for anything dirty.
Best Boy: Ditto.

*giggle* Yeah, I know they're not as dirty as they sound!
I just want to know the general sequence of events for a major movie. It's all good though, I'm not going to have time to write that story for quite a while.
