Here is the link to US Amazon. It is a lower price than the Canadian edition

And...January 2026??
Yeah, I noticed.  Publisher schedules... kinda suck.

Don't know if I will be able to afford it..

As @Just Al noted, I accidentally posted Amazon.ca link, so that's $$$CDN.  Even so... printing costs are going up, lately (and the stupid tariffs may make that worse).

I'm going to get it from the library, I think.

Or maybe sign-up to Audible -- looks like there's an offer to get the audiobook "free" with a new account (the wife & I have been sharing her account, so I can get one and it'll be new).

I'll likely pick up a hardcopy later, from the second-hand / discount market.

For example:  Powell's Books is now selling copies of Peace Talks for $13.95 (MSRP is $28).

God help us all on the tariffs, and if the new powers that be have their way on Social Security, being able to afford the next Dresden novel won't be the only thing I have to worry about. :(

I have the hope that it is going to be released before that...like for Christmas.
Unless I am mistaken, the kindle had been U$ 15 (or around that) since forever. I was counting with that amount.

Amazon often uses placeholder dates. I suspect this is one.

Maybe "Twelve Months" also means the length of time between Butcher posting that he finished the book and its release date.

That was my thought, too.

Sadly, it looks like the info is accurate:

Cool. I wonder what the cover will be.

At first I was a bit shocked at the release date. But it seems to be consistent on several sellers' websites.
That's almost 12 months after he finished writing. I thought it would be faster considering there is supposed to be a lot of pre-editing due to the beta readers.
I would have expected to have the book by late October or November 2025.
At least there is a date now. I am happy to see this.

I fear not. The former placeholder date was 2027. They changed it recently. But if it changes to an earlier date, I would not mind. At all. 😇 Just saying. 😅

Yes, I do not remember any other JB book where the gap between him sending it to the editor and the release date was so wide.

It's possible (I hope) that the comments about his last two books suffering from the "Author's too big to edit" problem convinced the publisher to take a hard look at the manuscript and tell him that multiple changes/cuts are needed. It's also possible that his publisher just has so much in the pipeline that next January is the first open slot they had.

This is my suspicion.
Also, we all may be hoist on the petard of Jim's slower & less-predictable pace:  publishing lead-times have only increased, with the supply-chain problems that occur these days, and their queue likely filled with other works while Jim was chanting a mantra of, "it'll be done when it's done."

You could be right, because the two books did suffer because they should have been one book to begin with...

I think I'll be waiting an extra 2 or 3 months for it to come down in price after publishing at that rate.
Or going to the library. I'm not a Kindle fan and audio books grate on my nerves.
Good to see movement though

I also prefer a real book in my hands when I read... However Kindle does have it's uses, so I have an old one for those times.. Like out of print or older books that either aren't available in any other format or the only way they can be gotten at a reasonable price.

e-readers are great for searching.
Also when travelling:  one e-reader can hold a small library (and with connectivity it reaches an arbitrarily-large library!).

But for just sitting & enjoying, it cannot come close to a real book!

Ah, for the good old days, when there were 12 months between book releases, and not between the finish and release of a single book.

I love e-books for several reasons. One of them is that I can adapt the font size. Sometimes my sight, even when glasses, is tired and I like to read larger letters.

They both have their place and their advantages..

To me it does not matter so much when the book is published. After a couple of days I am back to "when is the next book coming out". So in the larger scheme of things it does not matter much :-)

Although I would prefer that it does not arrive at a time where I should not throw everything else away and just listen to the book.

Someone mentioned that Amazon sometimes uses place holder dates and I believe that is the case here.  It would look bad for Amazon if they said Twelve Months or any other highly anticipated best selling novel is being released in late November or December but it doesn't come out until January.  It doesn't hurt them to be conservative with their release date estimates.

Here is the main reason I think Jan. 20, 2026 is a place holder date: https://www.jim-butcher.com/faq/upcoming-works (https://www.jim-butcher.com/faq/upcoming-works)
If Jim's official website doesn't have a release date, then there isn't one.  Unless it pops up on his website tomorrow morning, I think it is a solid, educated guess that Amazon is just making a blind guess and doesn't know anymore when Twelve Months will be released than we do.

I also hope that it is a placeholder date, but I also think that maybe the website is not always up to date.
There are some really old infos in some sections like this one for example:
Quote
Q. Would Jim be a guest at my convention or event?
A. Jim makes all of his convention and appearance selections over a year in advance. Jim’s 2020 and 2021 schedules are completely full. Invitations for 2022 may still be sent.
.

Edit: and the date is also the same with other sellers than Amazon.
