Title: Question concerning Fate Points
Post by: akbloomfield on September 08, 2013, 09:23:50 PM
I remember reading somewhere in YS that it is not only refresh but also fate points that can never go below one.  My players vehemently disagree with me.  I can't find where I read that now.  Does anyone have official proof for either case?

Refresh can never drop below 1, or you are considered an NPC.

However, you can easily drop to 0 fate points, simply by spending them all. If you did spend them all, you'll get 1 fate point at a refresh event, since you have to have at least 1 refresh. Other than that, you can have pretty much any number of fate points you can think of. Including negative numbers (aka pre-accepted compels).

What constitutes as a refresh event? I haven't heard of that before.

It's when refresh happens and you gain the Fate Points determined by your refresh level. I didn't have my book with me and wasn't sure what it was called exactly, but apparently it's just called refresh. It can be found in Your Story Page 20.

I'm sure the book has a long lengthy explanation.
But really its GM fiat.

Our group tends to wrap up a plot point a session so I refresh every session.

Going from memory, Fate points get refreshed at the start of every session, though the GM could decide to have them refresh part way through a particularly long session.

Plot point resolutions are usually called Milestones, where aspects can be changed, skills swapped out/advanced, or Refresh spent to purchase or upgrade Stunts and Powers.  It's also where additional skill points and Refresh can be awarded, depending on the type of Milestone.
