So one of the players in my game is a warrior who mixes sword play and magic to try and complete his family quest. He's found that he really doesn't want the depth from evocation. We were thinking to switch it for something evocative. Despite the number of threads I've started in the past 2 months I'm not 100% on all this stuff yet so any help or advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Description: By drawing on the power of your deceased ancestors you're able to utilize a potent form of spirit magic. In return however you give your ancestors great sway over your actions.

I find that to be reasonable. If he's a swordsman, you might want to go the way of Transcendant Swordsmanship and replace Conviction with Might and Discipline with Weapons for the purposes of spellcasting. It helps boost power while remaining inside the character's thematic bounds.

As worded currently, I'd suggest that the evocation is a bit too broad, including the full scope of two elements, but I also suspect that that degree of versatility is unintended. I suggest that you further define the sort of effects available here.
Then again, I'm not entirely sure what a 'metal evocation' can accomplish, which might reduce some of that perceived versatility, but is a problem in its own right.

No higher stamp of approval exists. Maybe I do have a handle on homebrewing for this game.
