My wizard character has a focus item slot I want to fill with a Crafting focus item, my problem is I do not know what to pick out for a focus item for making things. I have thought of everything from a vise, a jeweler's magnifying eyepiece (don't know the technical name), a leather-man tool, to an anvil and or hammer, mortar/ pastel, to even a chemistry set. I just don't know which to choose - or would make a good background story for my character.
Please help... any ideas?

I've got a character with a focus like that, I made it into work gloves. Probably depends on what sorts of items he's going to be crafting.

A Knife for etching magic symbols could work as an enchanted item focus, a hammer or tongs could also work depending on the bent of your crafting.

a jeweler's magnifying eyepiece (don't know the technical name)
Jeweler's Loupe (http://img2.etsystatic.com/000/0/6190164/il_fullxfull.300934498.jpg) is the term you are looking for, and I kind of like that idea...

Thanks for the name, and that is what I finally decided on. I liked the idea and just kept coming back to it, so I'm going to use it.
Thanks to the other suggestions and help, I will keep them in mind for future ideas.

In the pattern of Little Chicago, my Crafting Focus is the workshop itself. The more slots invested into it, the more this makes sense.

You already decided, but since this thread is here:
Go the Ron Swanson route and make it a bottle of scotch.
