'Lo Dresdenphiles,
OK, so I've run into a situation where I need to solidify the mechanics of an NPC seducing a PC - I'm guessing this get handled via social conflict? Does the NPC pile on maneuvers to stick some temporary aspects on the PC, and then tag'em to lay on enough stress to force a social consequences like "Mmmm, Me Want More Amore".
Would you use Deceit or Rapport to attack, Discipline or Rapport to defend?
Thanks in advance!
-
Well, the stunt "Sex Appeal" is based off of rapport, but I could easily see it based off of deceit. I would probably choose the skill based off of the overall intentions: are they trying to seduce the character because they want sex, or is the seduction a means to getting the PC's Macguffin?
-
That's why I thought Deceit would be applicable... in terms of context, seemed to make sense if the NPC was after the PC's MacGuffin. Or Big Mac. Or... McNugget. Whatever the case may be...
-
Seduction with no ulterior motives is probably Rapport modified by Empathy. With ulterior motives either Rapport modified by Deceit or Deceit modified by Rapport might fit - depending on circumstances and intentions. Of course other skills may fit better in specific situations - Performance and Presence come to mind as possibilities in the right situation. Figure out a) intentions and b) methodology and you'll probably narrow which skills apply.
Similarly with defense. Someone convinced it's "wrong" might defend with Conviction. Someone trying to avoid distractions might use Discipline and someone with a well defined sense of self might resist manipulation with Presence. Rapport might be used to convince the seducer to change reasons for the seduction...or to avoid it altogether. Empathy may help catch any ulterior motives behind the seduction. As with attacks, start with intention and method then figure out which mechanics fit.

For some, intimidation might be best.
-
Intimidation?
How?

Intimidation?
How?
Well, if agressive approaches aren't enough just consider a few fetishes...

Naughty naughty...

But it does highlight the one thing that is neat and cool about FATE or at least the DFRPG version of it... how social conflict can be a bit of a beast to pin down for someone new to the system. Context is all-important - it isn't just always "X Skill Vs Y Skill". It is probably frustrating to some but it's one of the great things I love about the system.
-
Don't look at it in terms of what skill is linked to a certain action. Come up with a description of what you want to do and how you want to do it, and a skill will usually suggest itself. Or work backwards, and pick the skill you'd like to be able to use, then try to come up with a way to feature that skill in your plan.

For some reason this thread has me thinking about the scene in Monty Python's "Quest for the Holy Grail" where a knight is "rescue" - pull kicking and protesting away from the castle where his virtue is being threatened.

I thought about: "Help, help, I'm being oppressed!" :D
-
Think it through:
GM: "First, I tag the aspect "Hundreds of girls in the castle".
Then I tag "Their male relatives are all off at the crusades".
Then I tag that your PC has to touch one because she's been naughty and needs to be spanked, and ten NPCs chime in that they need spankings too. Then I mention the oral sex and start the seduction. So that's +24 to the seduction roll - you're getting taking out."
Player 1: "No fair! My PC has to be pure to get the holy grail."
Player 2: "Okay, I'll spend a FATE to invoke my "Always there for my friends" aspect and burst in and save you."
GM: "But he's being taken out socially and wants to stay. Even if he concedes he's getting some action."
Player 2: "So my PC will drag him out kicking and screaming about how much he wants to stay."
GM: "Fine - but I see a rabbit in your future. Brahahaha!"
Yupe, that's a social conflict - right there at Castle Anthrax.

Q: How many Shifts?
A: Ummm, 13

Q: Fragile or Sticky?
A: Fra- no, Sticky - no, wait, AUUUUUGH!

Wait a second - are you talking about African or European Swallows?
Because only one of them can carry coconuts.

You will know fear!
-
Oooh, the IoP "Holy Handgrenade of Antioch"!
-
IoP? Nah. That's just a plain old potion slot. How can you tell? Easy: it was never mentioned until it was needed - but once it was needed, they "had it all along".

Next time someone asks me how Declarations work, I'm going to use the Holy Hand Grenade as an example.

Sweet, and hey you used my caption ;)
Run away!!!!!!

I think the Stunts should be named after quotes from the movie for the ultimate win... but damn. That's one mean bunny. We should stat up the English Ke-niggets and Brave Sir Robin, and the the cow-tapult. Too all those who came onto this thread expecting further insight into seduction rules in the DFRPG, I half-heartedly apologize.

At least they're getting their money's worth in quality material!
We should stat up the Knights-Who-Say-Ni...
-
Looks like we've all been seduced away from the topic at hand. Which was seduction. So it is strangely still on topic.
Social consequences all around.

I sense the birth of a project that could change the world.
Behold! "Monty Python's Holy Grail, As Told Through The FATE RPG."
In that vein, here is LOTR as told through D20 play. Including all the "why did they do ________ " being explained by PC interaction. Its amazing.
http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?cat=14
AND, here is Phantom Menace, as told by D20 with a little sister wanting to play... and getting all the choice characters. INCLUDS the spell "Summon Bigger Fish"...

Would that be an african or european swallow?
-
Echoes Of The Beast (Rabbit) [-1]
Now I'm just curious Sanctaphrax....
-
@sinker: Beats the hell out of me. I never really thought it through.
@Arcteryx: I haven't seen the movie in ages. Give me some quotes and I'll rename the stunts. Give me some descriptions and I'll stat out the other things you mentioned.
-
Well, it's actually called the Rabbit of Caerbannog
"Vicious streak a mile wide."
"The most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on!"
"Nasty, big, pointy teeth."
-
Man, the Phantom Menace D20 was gold...!
-
They did a music video called Summon Bigger Fish which is amazing.
