RAW= rules as written

This typically used to refer to the letter of the law not the spirit.

RAI is Rules As Intended. Sometime RAW does not = RAI :)

I dunno - I think people like that have a harder time existing with the DFRPG... I mean, when we can actually just email Fred and get an answer, it takes the wind out of some folks' sails.

Compound that with the fact that Evil Hat philosophy is that the individual table gets to decide a lot of things, and it makes rules lawyering even harder.  Not impossible, just harder.

That is, from what I understand, the philosophy of pretty much every RPG company.  Heck, even the developers of D&D advocate that.

RAW is important though, since it is good to know what the rules are before modifying them, imho.  (Sometimes RAW and RAI disagree, and it is good to be able to communicate with a Dev when that happens).

I agree. Sometimes you need clarification too. Cause RAI and RAW are not clear so it is nice that with the advent of the internet we can just ask. unlike before the advent of the internet when there was not really any resolution.
