Title: Story-Related Questions (slighlty book soilerish)
Post by: Ren on November 25, 2010, 10:53:53 PM
I'm working on developing a campaign and I had a couple of questions that I need to get cleared up;
(click to show/hide)
- Can Red Court vampires create Renfields?
- If so, what happens to a Renfield if it's creator(s) are killed?
- Are Renfield's actually vampires or just really fricking strong and tough?

...you'd think that with my name I'd know the answers to the Renfield questions...rofl

Well, Renfields are human victims of mind magic, almost brain-dead slaves. If a Red has mind magic, I'd say they could make one. Otherwise, the closest they get are drug addicted humans looking for their fix. A Renfield without a controller would most likely do what they usually do, which is commit henious acts of violence.

In the books? Yes. I think so.

- Can Red Court vampires create Renfields? ,

According to canon they can't.  As a matter of fact they can do better. Addicting people to their saliva or money creates servants that can still think for them selfs.

- If so, what happens to a Renfield if it's creator(s) are killed?

Basically nothing. He won't go on an killing spree right away, but probably on some time in the futer. Until then he'll probably just stand around and fulfill the task that was given to him.

- Are Renfield's actually vampires or just really fricking strong and tough?

Nope. Renfields are mortals who had their mind crushed into oblivion by some kind of nasty. They aren't any stronger or quicker then any other mortal, but they will take lots and lots of physical punishment.

...you'd think that with my name I'd know the answers to the Renfield questions...rofl

Thanks for the info, it helps. Means I can't have Rampaging Renfield's Roaming 'Round...ah fun with alliteration!

Just means they'll show up later on in the Campaign I am planning.

Actually, they can be stronger... See the Master Dominator paragraph YS:172
But other than that you're right, they are simply controlled humans.

Well, Red Vamps do have some form of mental attack ability... why not give some of them the Domination Power... that would allow for Red Renfields. But like PapaGruff said, addicting people to the venom more or less serves the same purpose... just imagine all those Venom-Junkies going into withdrawal... Rampaging and Roaming could well be on the agenda *g*

The reason for the questions are for the campaign I am running which will be set post-"Changes"
(click to show/hide)
. One of the primary themes is going to deal with the after-effects of their destruction and didn't know if they would have Renfields running around causing terror and death. Instead I can have them show up later when the Black Court tries to show up to fill the Void. Gonna get hot in Miami!

edited; now with spoiler warnings!

Alternately, just solve the "what is the jade court" issue by making them exactly like the red court, use the same stats, new name.

I have a friend that has a pretty good take on the Jade Court I may borrow if I decide to use them, but I'm not even sure Miami has a large chinese presence much less a chinatown. But I may however modify his verison to make it my own by allow several variant blood-lines...that and I realllly like the idea of using Pennagolans!.

There's not really a Chinatown, but there are plenty of immigrants from Caribbean countries of Chinese descent. I can see some Jade Court presence by way of Trinidad/Jamaica/St. Vincent and the like.
