Title: I throw a truck at him......! Ok, that's a what-plus weapon?
Post by: Custos on November 11, 2010, 09:16:13 PM
Basically that is just my question. Say you got a big smashy smashy character rocking Great Might and Mythic Strength (so the base Might for lifting things is 16) who decides to do his best impersonation of Collateral Damage Man. According to the YS pg. 321 the character could carry a crumpled car like a baseball, letting him run full speed and throw it like I baseball. So would that be a 4 weapon or more?

More - the strength value of mythic strength gets added to the total value of the weapon grade for damage...

...and don't forget the chance of the gas tank exploding.   ;D

Thanks. But I was meaning more before that add was done.

Edit - And how insane would having a lifting ability of 12-20 be?

For reference, I seem to recall that hitting someone with a car using Driving is a base Weapon:3 attack.

This may fall under the proviso against using Falling rules to score huge piles of damage on people by throwing them off things. Using the vehicle as a projectile may simply be a justification for transmitting as a ranged attack the incredible amount of damage you can normally only do in melee combat.

But... people use solid objects to hit people better all the time, in real life and in fiction.

At the very least you could Declare (using your Might) the aspect Projectile Car and then free tag it for a +2 bonus when throwing.

Sounds like a Wpn:3 to me. It'll be way higher in the end with the strength, but I think the be all end all is that it wasn't made to hurt people. Wpn:4 is a high explosive, like a Claymore Mine or a Rocket Launcher.

I agree. Weapon:3 plus that much strength is a pretty awesome attack.

It's Weapon:4 or 5. All boni get added. From YW 326:

Quote
Impact Damage
At some point, you may want to have one character
try to hit another character with a car or
other speeding object. This can be considered an
attack using Weapon:5(!) for the car. Generally,
most massive objects like that should be about
Weapon:4 or Weapon:5, like explosives—only
the hardiest of supernatural creatures should be
able to shrug them off.

Excellent! In a recent game, our GM ruled to hit a vamp with our car would require using Driving as a weapon skill, and the extra shifts over the difficulty would become the damage shifts. Not as generous as an automatic 4 or 5, but in all fairness, the car had been parked at the time and didn't have much room to gather momentum before hitting the RCV.

Thanks for all the help and info, guys. I always love to see what strength can do in a game. Especially if my character is going to have Diminutive Size, mwuahahahahah!

Wouldn't that be cheating on the "Wee" Trapping of Deminutive Size?

Nope, for reference look at the egyptian god Bes - he is supposed to be really small, but he is also a protector god of egyptian myth who who would by all accounts would have a step up from Mythic Strength.

Fair enough, but it was mostly a joke on the size. Though the idea of the in-your-face fly threatening to backhand a troll and the troll backing down is just a good mental image.

True. It's like Yoda kicking Docus ass.

@Tbora ... well Bes is a god ...

Same principal applies for supernatural beings of enough potency imo.

I mean Mab was described as being only a couple inches taller then Murphy, so big things really do come in small packages.

I won't argue. I can't actually because I don't know enough about Egyptian theology. All I'm saying is that the penalties of the "Wee" trapping apply to a diminutive character that picks up strength powers.

Thoughts on driving the car as a weapon:  I like using the Driving Skill as the base attack, but add 1 shift for every 10 mph the car is going, so if the Driver is travelling at 40 mph and has a Driving Skill of Fair (+2), that would be 4 + 2 shifts, and count the car as a Wpn 3 for damage.

Sure ... you could house rule it this way. Personally I'd let the extra shifts that are created by the standard attack reflect the extra tempo and treat it as flavor. Weapon:5 ain't weak. No need to make it even more powerful.

Alternatively, making a Drive Maneuver for Breakneck Speed on your own vehicle, and having the dude in your passenger seat lean over and flick the switch for a Blinded by my Brights Maneuver, then hitting them next round with a +4 would pretty much work, I would say.
