Hello all...
One of my player came up with the concept of a spell caster specialized in statue animation through ritual casting.
I find the idea very interesting, but how can I translate the idea in system language?
Essentially it could be similar to a summoning, but I am not sure how to conceptualize the concept in Dresden-magic term.

See the spell in YS to animate the zombie. Remove the requirement for a heartbeat. Make it a little harder to compensate for that and the lack of 4th law issues.
Summon spirit into statue. Bind it to your your will. At the end of the day you've just gotta look at the effect. If it's basically the same as a zombie. use that

Oh nice!
I missed that one...Thanks!

Mmmm...another question.
If you bind an elemental spirit...does it break any of the Laws of Magic?
-
generally no. :)

Binding the spirit against its will might get your head chopped off(it's what Morgan accused Harry of doing to Toot-toot)
Binding the spirit and making a bargain with it is perfectly fine.
Also, if the spirit isn't human (like Sue's spirit) you're fine.

Uhm, Toot-toot isnt an human.
I think Morgan had no basis for his accusation, if he had one Harry would be dead.

The laws of magic generally only apply to mortals (or I think we can extrapolate Free Willed / positive refresh individuals).
The laws of magic as interpreted by white council wardens are a bit more vague...
So - I'd rule that you wouldn't end up with a Lawbreaker Power, you MIGHT end up with a Lawbreaker (Extreme) Social Consequence... but it seems unlikely.

that is right. morgan was just over-enthusiastic to threaten harry...
