Title: Amount of spells?
Post by: Ihadris on January 24, 2010, 02:32:20 PM
Hi,

When looking back over older posts I stumbled across the stat block for
(click to show/hide)
. I noticed that he only has one spell despite his -11 refresh. For a normal game about how many spells would you be looking at for at for a PC? Does each spell cost points from their refresh?

I kno that you guys really don't want to talk indepth about the magic system so I understand if It isnt possible to answer my question!

Thanks

Ihadris

Infinite. The system allows for wizards to construct whatever sort of spell they want.  They've got a few "well-practiced" ones they can establish as "rotes", on the Evocation side, but that just means that one of the infinite possibilities is a little easier to cast.

For a possible example, in the first two or three books Harry says he's much better at detection and tracking rituals rather than straight up invocations, being able to loose a flame blast or two but wildly and without much aim (even with a blasting rod). By the time White Night comes around eight books later, he's throwing around telephone pole sized fire lances and generating minature sun balls to scare the dickins out of rebellious young apprentices?

We'll be posting a peek at Harry's Storm Front era character sheet sometime in the next couple weeks.

Will we get to see some other of his character sheets, to show his progression?

In the book we talk about how he develops over time, but you'll have to wait to see the game for those.

So, is it going into the books?

I can't make sense of this question.

I think he means is the discussion of Harry's development over time going to be included in the game books.

Yeah, that's what I took the question to be, and it didn't make sense to me since it was in response to me saying that exactly that would be included in the game.  ???

I thought the same! But it could be confusion over which set of books you were refering to?
Still whilst we are talking about advancement I wasnt able to find that thread where you talked about the different kinds of advancement that were in the game books. Three different kinds wasn't it?

Maybe... but there's only one set of books that I could be referring to (the two that make up the RPG), unless you're talking about the novels. :)

Yes, though we've expanded the idea a bit since I made that post. Just a few more months until it's out there. :)
