"When I was 5 years old my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when i grew up. I wrote down “Happy”. They told me i didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. "

It's almost a sickness, but I also can't help but recommend:

... if for no other reason than to help my fellow ink-slingers realize exactly why something they're writing seems familiar.
"Oh, yeah! This is his 'Smite Me O Mighty Smiter' speech!

Slightly more specialized, but fun anyway:

http://www.seventhsanctum.com/

This is a collection of "generators", on the order of those "[fill in the blank] Name Generators" that crop up on the Intertubes from time to time, but much broader in scope and, IMHO, vastly more entertaining. My personal favorite is the Tarot Card Generator

... which includes entirely new suits, as well as new major trumps.

Anyone care for a writing challenge?

A character opens a door, but the action turns into something else. During the story, a character drinks something they haven't had in a while. The story must have a salamander in it. During the story, a character discovers someone has written a book or article about them.
