Which is probably wise, as it would start getting trite after the "Thomas was his brother all along" and "Ebenezar was his grandfather all along" reveals. There are only so many times the author can go back to that particular barrel.
While true, there's also the possibility of VERY distant relatives; everyone in the world is SOME degree of cousin after all.
And remember when Luccio described how she kept loose tabs on all her relatives, checking in on them every few years, seeing how they're doing, etc; with the sense that it was kind of a LOT of people, spread very widely.
And Eb is older than Ana.
Lord only know WHAT wild oats he may have sewn in his young&stupid days! Probably not even Eb knows...
