Svartalfs = SG-1 Asgard?

So it occurred to me in discussing Brief Cases that the Svartalves -- beings from Norse mythology -- look more or less like Roswell Greys, but use glamours to look human.

Which sounded familiar...

Anyone else think this might be a reference?

I'm not sure if I ever made that correction because in SG-1 they were the Norse gods, but in the DF they are the dwarves.

(Unsure if "gods" should be capitalized or not).

I think generally it's only capitalized if you're talking about the Jewish/Christian God.

I go with any individual being; the Deity of any monotheistic religion, so in the context of (e.g.) Mithraism I'd talk about God with  capitalization.

But also, Thor is an individual, as is Shiva, etc.  So I might say, "of course Shiva put the beatdown on a few uppity naagloshii -- he is a God, after all!"

But the Norse pantheon of gods?  That I don't capitalize.  Unless I suspect they'll be reading what I write, of course.  But that's the Archive's schtick, so no worries (she's not a god).

I tend toward the journalistic route -- if it's a name, it's capitalized. If it's a title, it's only capitalized if it comes immediately before the name.

I.e., "Judge Hossenfeffer" vs. "the judge" vs. "Judge" as a second reference to Chris Judge.

Plus in pop culture, there's usually a connotative difference (see: Ego in GOTG Vol. 2 insisting he's a "little g" god at most).

The general rule is proper nouns are capitalized. Norse being obvious to me, I was uncertain if the capitalization rule carried over to "gods." Apparently it doesn't. At least according to Wikipedia. "Common nouns not used as titles should not be capitalized: the Norse gods, personal god." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Capital_letters#Religions,_deities,_philosophies,_doctrines,_and_their_adherents (emphasis original). So it looks like Mr. Death got it exactly right.
