Mirror Mirror and Harry's missing eye
« on: March 17, 2019, 12:24:12 AM »
In Grave Peril when Susan was trying to make a deal with Leah, the first thing Leah asked for were Susan's eyes.  I'm assuming that there must be some sort of power in someone's eyes.  I wonder if Dresden traded one of his for a favor.
Stole this from Reginald because it was so well put, and is true for me as well.

That makes a lot of sense! I've never understood why the eyepatch was important, but if it's a reference to a deal that Harry made...

What eyepatch? where are you getting that from?

If it's in reference to a WoJ, in regards to the goatie and looking like a villanous Harry it might have been a joke.

There's certainly precedent.

Odin, for instance, traded his eye for wisdom.

And what pocket of space time did this come from?

Pocket of space time? What? It's canon that Lea asked for Susan's eyes, and I have trouble believing that she would ask for anything that didn't have value. I'm not sure how space-time pockets enter into it.

Sorry that was me trying to be cute.  I understand Susan but when did Harry lose an eye?

I think there was a WoJ that someone in the mirrorverse would have an eyepatch; I'm not sure if he said Harry specifically.

I could easily picture Harry losing an eye after putting on his anti-hero hat and running off on a revenge mission after Susan was killed. As Mr. Death pointed out, Odin did trade his eye for wisdom in the Poetic Edda.

Though the exact phrasing states that he "hid" his eye in Mimisbrunnr, a spring under Yggdrasil that's home to Mimir. The water there is supposed to provide wisdom, and Odin kinda leaves his eye there in exchange for a swig of the water. I've always wondered whether or not Odin's great wisdom comes, in part, from his eye still being soaked in the wise waters, and if he had some kind of constant connection to it.

Imagine Harry leaving his eye in stasis on Demonreach to maintain a thaumaturgic connection to the Island, possibly letting him access Intellectus whenever he wants. That'd be a pretty cool trade off. Though I'm not sure AlternaHarry would be Warden.
