The moral position taken inside the books and by woj is clear. The vampire had made the choice to kill someone for power and bloodlust and Susan and her order proved that that choice was not necessary. That choice made them all murderers.

That is different from a predatory species evolved with us specialized in hunting humans.

(I read it as a teenager so it might be not as good as I remember)

But even then while not exactly declaring them evil for what they are declaring humans they have to willingly be prey because the predator has a right to survive as well is asking too much from the prey.

Definitely agree with that.  Maybe they're not "evil" for trying to survive, but if they're killing us they're our adversaries - no two ways about it.
