I guess someone's gotta reopen the TV Series section.

Well I ow the first TV series a debt of gratitude, because if it wasn't for that show I would not have been told by a friend that is was nowhere near as good as the books, so he lent me Storm Front and I haven't looked back :)
I do hope the new series is more faithful to the books :)
Trust but verify.

Personally, I like that old show, not despite the fact that it did not follow the books, but because of it. If it follows the books too closely, well, I've read the books, been there, done that. If it is sorta Dresden-like, enough so that it can at least be considered Dresden (even if only barely), but has NEW Dresden stories, and is at least a decent series (which I thought it was), then it's something new. Not as good as a whole new Dresden book maybe, but, well, it's something.

It could have been better, but personally I liked the acting, Dresden and Murphy seemed like themselves, even if he was too short (how many actors do you know who can play Dresden AND are almost seven feet tall) and she was a brunette (I thought she was the best part of the show, despite brunette and too tall).

I thought the show had promise despite clashing with the books. I hope the new show is closer to the books, but I do not need to see the books on TV, I have the books already, I want the TV to be NEW stories, but as close to the books as can be despite that. It should also be noted that writing for a book and for a TV show are not the same, example, I think Potter is dry and sparse as books but worked great as movies, and I know some books that are great but would not work as movies (maybe as a TV serial). Do not be surprised if the new TV show is not the books, because the books may not make good TV.

In short, I am hoping for NEW Dresden I have never seen or read before, so long as it IS Dresden.

I think this is the thing Butcher tweeted about, saying don't believe everything you see on the internet.  I guess we'll see if anything else develops.

The first thing I would ask for with a TV show is being true to the books. At least, as true as Hollywood could be to source material.

I think I'm with Nightfall on this one - I've read the books.  Three times, and four for Storm Front because one of my daughters just started reading it - she said she was in chapter 6, so I opened it up to see where that was, and wound up finishing it.  :-|

But I don't see "copy of the books" and "true to the books" as the same thing - and I think that's what Nightfall's getting at.  We'd like stories that we haven't seen before, but which "click into" the book-verse properly and just add more flavor and depth to the story.  The Dresdenverse is the richest, most intricately crafted fictional verse I've ever encountered - there's a TON of room for new stuff that fits right in.

I can't decide if I'm hoping this is true or false - despite the potential, I see the odds of the industry getting it "right" as slim to none.

At least what I saw was directly from Jim, stating that becasue it was his birthday he was announcing that yes, they are doing a show.  I'll try to find the specific link.

Edit: Nvm, I see now Gryff's comment is a little out of date, confirmation link already posted.

Oh, this is confirmed?  Any info whatsoever on cast, timing, etc.?

I'm eager and scared at the same time...  Movie and TV folk don't seem to feel any need whatsoever to "honor" books in any major way.  But I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best.

I haven't seen any confirmations.  The only things I've seen was the original post by Deadline at 9am 10/8, and a post by JB on Twitter at 3pm 10/8 saying not to believe everything you read on the internet.

The only other post I see on his Twitter feed since then was about the wedding.  Maybe he confirmed it elsewhere, but I haven't seen it.

Dresden Files Podcast did a short debrief on it. Worth checking out for confirmation, that it's being discussed by the studio.

In that case, I found it, but only as a screenshot I was sent, and I can't post that here.  Effectively a post from Jim saying that since it is his birthday yes, they are doing a show, details as they come.  Trying to find a link.

Edit: Found it, but it was a link to a facebook post, and after digging myself not sure the page is legit.  So not actually confirmed, especially in light of the tweet, which I do no is a legit account.

Edit 2: After more digging, looks like the facebook footprint in questions is all mostly years old, and either not real, or at least defunct.  So basically ignore everything I said in this thread.

The confirmation came from a private facebook group (that I am not a member of) the other day from Jim himself. This Reddit thread has the rundown. If you read through the thread, Jim (user "jimbutcherauthor") later posted (a number of times) to further confirm.
