FB Woj share(update)
« on: June 07, 2018, 01:31:56 PM »
Comes from a fan on the JBIT, said he met him today(yesterday now?) and asked a few questions
Quote
Sean Steinbarth  The questions I asked were:

1. How has the Oblivion War progressed since we last saw it in Backup?

Answer: Not at all. The Oblivion War goes decades without anything happening. The only way to portray it would be to do a series with timeskips.

2. Is Vadderung mortal? (Based on a WoJ from an interview video that has since been nuked from YouTube.)

Answer: Vadderung is mortal. . . Kind of.

3. Are Skinwalkers capable of procreation? (I wasn't specific with this one at first. Bare with me.)

Answer: No. They can't make something as big as they are, but they can make lesser beings.

Me: What about what about with mortals?

Answer: Ooohhh! Yes! They can do that. They can make scions. That's where Goodman Grey came from.

That one was for everyone who said skinwalkers were obviously incapable of procreation, due to being "genderless."
The nuking of old Jim videos is new to me, and troublesome...  an I guess we won't be getting another 100 pages on if Grey is a Scion ;p

So I went to a signing for Brief Cases with Jim Butcher tonight, and one interesting question came up that Jim answered a bit too gleefully for Harry's comfort. I'll have to paraphrase the question since I can't remember it exactly, but I can quote Jim's response:

Question: Can the three faerie queens give Harry conflicting orders?

Jim Butcher: "THEY CAN NOW!!!"

He didn't actually rub his hands together maniacally, but the smile on his face was slightly disturbing. So yeah, I guess there's that to look forward to (or dread).

Regarding #2:  I tried, I really Tried to get an answer to that on the AMA:

Quote
4) Did Vadderung sacrifice anything to be able to spend so much time on Earth, or is he just at a higher risk than most prefer? Or something else entirely?

4) Over several different points of the Dresden Files universe, the old gods' power was curtailed, limits set upon it, so that they wouldn't be able to do as much interfering with the development of humans. That was fine with most of them--they were kind of self absorbed jerks anyway, a lot of them. But a few wanted to keep walking beside and guiding humanity.

I don't want to ruin the story for you, and it will be out further down the line. :)

I think all we can really take away from that is that Vadderung is an oddball.  What it does not say, or even really hint one way or the other, is whether he was able to stay relevant with his full Immortal Power intact or whether he had to give it (or something else) up.

Stole this from Reginald because it was so well put, and is true for me as well.

I can't help but think that your plan of seducing and impregnating a naagloshi to gain control of the spawn is a little ill advised.
Edit: thanks for sharing Jonas. I meant to say that first thing, I really did.

And where are some people when one wishes they were still on the boards?   I seem to remember a thread that went on for over a hundred postings because some people would not or could not concede that being a scion meant that Goodman Gray was the offspring of a Skinwalker and a mortal..  So now it is confirmed at last!!!! ;D

I for one had been pretty successful at blocking all memory of that thread from my mind.

I for one had been pretty successful at blocking all memory of that thread from my mind.

However there are triggers that bring back flashbacks....  There is also the importance of confirmation as way of prevention.... But then again not sure that that works either because some people will never be convinced no matter how much they are confronted with the facts presented in a logical manner...  So maybe just blocking it out is the best...

Groinkick, you know Ammar will just point to the fact that Butcher has admitted that not every Word of Him is true. Also it isn't in the books.

Haha..  They will probably return, not reading it and the debate will start once again.

I don't recall Ammar.  Is that short for something?  I don't mind.  As long as the debate stays friendly, I enjoy it.

hmm that reminds me of the Odin from Norse mythology,
The guy who would disappear for long periods of time as he walked alongside humanity in is quests for wisdom.

some of you guys must know this better than me but Odin didn't really rely on any typical godlike powers, the  mythologies we still know about him mostly focus on Odin learning all kinds of knowledge in crazy ways, it seems perfectly in line with that for Odin to give up the god side of his powers to focus on gaining more knowledge/wisdom/magic, whatever, and the series has portrayed him as knowing just about everything.

the point im trying to make is that all that knowledge was his main focus and he most likely is now in a mortal (but still wizard level) body, but he can wield his low amount of power with his godlike cunning and knowledge base so hes only kinda mortal.
Remember bob explaining the insanely complex magic behind demon reach.

the oddball stuff is true because the rest of the old gods would never consider trading in for a mortal body
