That's a good point. Had Harry not had the go ahead to take the other artifacts he might have resorted to different measures to keep them out of Nic's hands (like starting the ball rolling early). This could have greatly changed the scenario with a worse outcome.

Personal curiosity primarily.   It is not as if Hades mentioned much that would not have been obvious in the moment or afterwards.   I think Hades just wanted to meet Harry - a person who he clearly feels some kinship of spirit. 

Got to remember, these gods are people as well as beings of power - especially those greek gods.

Relatedly, it's one of the things I liked about the Iron Druid (if you can get past the simple past to present tense chapter shifts); the Olympic gods were pretty universally depicted as jerkfaces. Zeus especially.
