Chandler, Doctor Who, And an Inmate
« on: October 19, 2017, 12:57:29 AM »
Chandler first shows up as a non-named warden in Murphy's kitchen near the end of Small Favor. He is seen as the solo wizard at gate of Edinburgh in TC. We get a message from him with Luccio's msg that he was among the wizards that confronted Cristos in Changes, but was able to escape.
In a thread Serack, myself, and the originator, wondered if perhaps Chandler's old, grouchy time traveling self later becomes the individual imprisoned within Demonreach.
Why such a huge leap, you mask ask. Well, watch this video and you get to learn his area of expertise--TIME.

What kind of magic does Chandler specialize in?
WOJ Chandler does a lot of Divination, and a lot of stuff that is involved with time. Which puts him in a very finicky spot, a very high profile spot on the council. It's one reason why he's a Warden where they can keep an eye on him. He can actually do things to screw with the flow of time and look back in time and find things out, and occasionally to look forward in time and see things. Although that's very unreliable because of the whole free will nonsense. He's an information gatherer for the most part. He's not as much of a punch you in the face type, but he's really really useful which is why he has got a lot of status among the young wardens. He's got access to what the old wizards think is valuable, which is information.
Anyways, it goes on to suggest that he is in HQ and a Warden so people can be looking over his shoulder to check to see if he has broken the law on time travel and quickly put an end to it, or him, or both."
(Jim also says here that Chandler's hat and bowler look is based off of John Steed of the 1960's British Avengers show)
Why Chandler is stationed at HQ:[Keeping him close, to keep an eye on him?] Exactly. He's always close to breaking one of the LAWS when messing with time. So, If he does start to build a Tardis, there going to have someone there to shut him down. So yes, when Jim created Chandler and his abilities he was thinking of THE DOCTOR.

Things to note about Chandler for potential equivalence to Demonreach's inmate.
He is British, sounds British.
He has an ability with time.
WC believes he has an ability to break the Law regarding Time.
He has good relations with Harry, who we know will break the Law regarding Time.
Jim has thought of Doctor Who in creating Chandler with Tardis allusion.
To make the theory fit would require a young Chandler to time travel, perhaps to a distant past. And, at some point, to mitigate paradoxes, etc he (grown old, wise, and grouchy) come to the realization that he must be placed in stasis in order to come back to the present. He worked with the warden of that time whether willingly or unwillingly.

The most important piece of this thread is to inform Forumites of the WOJ's and video regarding Chandler and his area of expertise.

Prospect for Mab/Murphy theory
It allows for some member(s) of present day Harry's allies the possibility to time travel into the past, possibly distant past if he proves to be the inmate in Demonreach.  This will further allow for an extensive time loop. One that in a specific instance could allow present day Murphy into a position to become a Winter Lady a thousand years ago. Or at the least, it makes an argument that Chandler could affect the timeline 1000+years ago, or whenever he was imprisoned.

I was thinking that Chandler was hat tip to the character in that other Urban Fantasy series.
