I don't have much of a X-mas spirit either; but, I fake it for family.

I'm guessing that that's why we read fairy tales :) to at least read about the magic that is not happening as much in our lives. That and asskickings of epic properties :D

I can see your reasoning and agree. Plus, I really identify with Harry's mentality.

Hm... I'm afraid I'm a bit more cynical than Dresden. But he's likable, for such a lippy bugger.

Yes, he is very optimistic considering his experiences. I know that I would not be nearly as positive. That is why he is a hero.

Oh, I don't lack the optimism. I simply don't tend to lie to myself about how the world works and I do my best to see things as they are. I do think that many things can be fixed and the world could be a better place... but I'm also aware, that it's a slow process demanding a lot of work.

Interesting. You think of him as a hero? I don’t think I’d apply that label to him. Certainly, he’s the focal point, but I tend to think of such a label as unrealistic. In a literary sense, I think he lacks admirable qualities often associated with the term. What makes him a hero to you?

I am going to go with the simplest reason possible. He fights bad guys and tries to do that which needs to be done. Now what is more unrealistic than fiction.

I totally understand.  I don't like it when fanfic gets the voices and behavior wrong, which is why I stay away from writing Dresden stories.

I have three ongoing character arcs.  Two are in the Dresdenverse we all know and love, but aren't from Harry's perspective; they're original characters with minimal overlap of familiar characters.  The third is from Harry's perspective, but in a Mirrorverse that's got significant differences that explain away character differences.

Read the 1st one. Liked it. Will read moar.
