Reference: Details of major ritual magic

In a discussion of what the items of power from SG might be used for last summer, I cobbled together a list of major ritual's Harry has done.  In it I generally listed the props he used, and any other significant circumstances.  This topic is to serve as a repository for that information for future reference, and as a place to collect information about similar ritual magic. 


Sanctum invocation with Demonreach:

• Circle:  three foot area cleared off with short wisk broom.  Wooden-armed chalk compass to draw out a perfect circle in glow-in-the-dark chalk.
• 5 white candles set out in a pentagram aligned properly by sighting with the north star.
• Skyclad except for pentacle amulet
• KA-BAR U.S. Marine combat knife.
• Plain silver chalice
• silver former Salvation Army bell with a black wooden handle.
• his blood in the chalice with soulfire.

First "attempt" at using Little Chicago (interupted by phone call)
Props needed for ritual started with "the elements first"

• Water:  Silver cup, filled with wine
• Earth:  Geode
• Fire:  Faerie-made candle, formed from unused beeswax, its wick braided from the hairs of a unicorn's mane.
• Air:  Anchored by a pair of hawk-wing feathers wrought from gold with impossibly fine detail and precision by a band of svartalves.
• Spirit:  Pentacle amulet

Props to engage the 5 senses:

• Scent:  Insense
• Taste:  Fresh grapes
• Touch:  Square with sand paper on one side and velvet on the other
• Sight:  Opal
• Sound:  Tuning fork.

Also accounted for:

• Mind:  Old K-Bar military knife as a ritual athame
• Body:  Fresh droplets of his blood on a clean white cloth
• Heart:  Pictures of loved ones

Dead Beat summons of the Erlking
Lighting:  Chem Lights.
Physical circle:  Barbed Wire circle 7 feet across.  Tacked down with horseshoe shaped staples. 
Five points of an invisible star within the circle with airticles with an affinity for the Erlking at each point:

• Heavy collar like for a hunting hound
• whetstone
• small bowie knife
• flint and steel
• several steel arrowheads

Five items with afinity to Harry opposite those of the Erlking's, outside the circle

• Copy of The Hobbit
• Splintered end of his last blasting rod
• .44 revolver
• unpaid parking ticket
• Pentacle amulet

Also performed immediately after sunset, on Halloween.

How much detail did he put into the mental summons of Uriel?  It was in the mind, but it still had a lot of the same imagery as I recall.

So obviously the SG relics could summon either the White Christ (five objects affiliated with him) or the Black (anti-)Christ (five objects affiliated against him). More likely it would summon the White Christ, as I imagine finding five objects affiliated with the summoner is easier than finding five items affiliated with the Antichrist.

So we have five objects.

Grail - Water, taste, Heart/Soul
Knife - Air, touch, Mind/athame
Placard - ,
Thorned Crown - Earth/Nature, scent, Body (blood drawn from it?)
Shroud - ,

Actually, using the artifacts for anything BUT summoning leaves an incomplete shopping list for a ritual.

The platform was a circle perhaps ten feet across, and inside of it was a thaumaturgic triangle, an equilateral shape within the ring of the circle used in most ritual magic because it was easier for amateurs to draw a freaking triangle than a pentacle or a Star of Solomon. Thick incense wafted up from braziers around the circle, giving the cold air the sharp scent of cinnamon and some other, more acrid spice.

He added a pinch of something to one of the braziers and picked up a carved box. He drew black candles from it and placed them at each tip of the triangle.

Madge picked up a curved ritual knife and a silver bowl and stepped into the circle. She pricked her finger with the knife and smeared blood upon the circle, closing it behind her. Then she knelt at Thomas’s head, lifted her face with her eyes closed, and began a slow chant in a tongue whose words twisted and writhed through her lips.

The only source of light left in the cavern came from the three black candles at the points of the ritual’s triangle, way the hell at the back of the chamber.

There was a summoning ritual, can't remember which book, but it involved a doll and tobacco and the entity was the one who asked Harry why he did what he did.

Also, there was a summoning ritual in Ghoul Goblin.

There was also the ritual that Nicodemus tried to do in DM.

I believe he was going to get Harry's blood in a Silver cup when Shiro busted in to save him.  Not sure if this was for the plague spell though.  Would have to re-read to see if Shiro was found in the middle of a pentegram or something.

The Doll and Tobacco was in Death Masks, where Bob couldn't track the shroud since it was an article of faith and outside his perview, so he recommended Harry summon a Voodun Diety to help instead, he had to use a Cabbage Patch Doll in place of the recommended 'freshly dead corpse'.

There was also the ritual that Nicodemus tried to do in DM.

Yes I recall that at the chapel in the airport, where Shiro was found, that the walls were covered in various ritual signs/runes/ect and painted with blood.  Harry even remarks that it didn't think it was possible to get that much blood out of Shiro's small body, Shiro himself was 'displayed' on the altar.
