Jim at Supanova: Melbourne, Apr 11-14, 2014
« on: December 01, 2013, 07:03:00 PM »
In his first trip outside North and Central America, Jim is heading all the way to Australia!  He'll also be hitting cons in the Gold Coast and Perth.

Supanova: Melbourne
April 11th-13th, 2014
Royal Melbourne Showgrounds
Epsom Rd
Ascot Vale VIC 3032, Australia

Additionally, Hachette Australia will be touring Jim in between convention dates.  We'll make another announcement soon as the dates and venues are established.

8 hour drive here we come!!!!

Can not express just how happy I am that you are coming down under Jim!

Now please not let there be a restriction on how many books you will sign... you know its your own fault for writing so many :P

I will have to fly down from Sydney. Would be happy with just 1 book (hopefully Skin Game is out by then) signed and maybe a photo.

And maybe a synopsis of the next Dresden Files book before anyone else in the world hears about it?

Me and a whole group of people are going to road trip to Melbourne as well, we are so excited to actually meet Jim! Also looking forward to meeting many other Jim Butcher fans.

Jim's usual policy is to sign three books per person per trip through the line, though sometimes venues will restrict that to two, and sometimes there are so many fans that folks only have time to go through the line once.  Prioritize which books are most important to you--don't get attached to the idea of having a signed full set.

Or you can get Jim to sign your ipad/kindle etc device. That way each book is signed.

Have to discuss with  BH but my plan is to get "Sue In a Box!" signed.  We went to ChiCon 7 and while there we also went to see Sue!  At the time the Museum Shop was selling a special plush T-Rex in a crate. BH and I looked at each and said, "Sue in a Box!"  I have to investigate getting over to Melbourne from Tassie since we are going to LonCon3 in August and that comes first as far as expenses.

Another idea take a pic of all your Dresden books and have him sign that.

Doh, I was hoping that the new book would be released by this convention so I could get it signed but it appears that will not be possible with the May release date unless Jim can bring advance copies to Australia?

Hey, so there's only a week to go til Melbourne Supanova! Who else is excited? We've got a group of 7 who will all be costuming as various Dresden characters on Saturday, and we were wondering if anyone else is dressing up as well? Hopefully we will see some of you there!

Unfortunately RL scheduling conflicts arose and BH and I are unable to attend  :'(   I think we are going to have to get a virtual signed "Skin Game" instead of having  "Sue-In-A-Box" signed.

Aww, that sucks!  Try asking one of your fellow forumites if there's anyone who lives near you who might be willing to get it signed for you?  Shipping to Australia on a virtual signed "Skin Game" is going to be pretty crazy.

If you do this, I highly recommend placing a clear strip of packing tape over the ink, otherwise everyday useage will rub the signature off.  I speak from personal experience.  I've gotten Jim to sign 2 different nooks, and the first rubbed off so I sucessfully employed the packing tape method to preserve the signature on the 2nd nook (which is also featured in my avatar).  I first tried to use nail polish as an enamel to protect it, but the ink would get smudged as it disolved into the polish, so I switched to the tape.

Another choice would be to do this:
