Got another 2000 words on The Sequel this afternoon, fixed some awkward bits.

My regular writing is on hold for a few weeks since a friend hooked me up with a freelance writing gig that'll pay for my edits and cover design for at least two Lady Raven books.

It would be easier to focus on the thing I'm supposed to be writing if I had not had a realisation of a different way to do the opening to the seventh volume of the thing I want to be working at, which if it still makes sense in a few days when the last traces of this fluey fever are gone, I may well go with.  (Eventually. Still only about a quarter of the way into volume 3, and gaah has this not been a good year for writing new stuff.)

kittensgame, Sandcastle Builder, Homestuck, Welcome to Night Vale, Civ III, lots of print genre SF, and old-school SATT gaming if I had the time.  Also Pandemic Legacy is the best game ever.

TISBWO - through pass on prologue and first two chapters, which is less than I had been hoping because I also found one more load of notes I hadn't integrated into my master What To Do Where file and had to integrate it.

I think I am finally up to working on this blessed thing again, which is a great relief, as I have set myself a deadline of the end of the year for it.  Nothing will happen next weekend because conrunning, but maybe the weekend after I will be better able to focus.

Decided to back-burner my current writing project. Hate to do it with nearly 500 pages in, but I have little too much anger tied too it right now to work on it with a clear head...that and I'm not sure how its going to end anyway so need some time to sort it out.
Instead going back to writing in my Fantasy Setting with a new cast, new location and with a very dark twist...Life after Undeath!

Sometimes a new project can help to keep you from spinning your wheels on an older one.

Close to finishing up Chapter 20 of my novel's outline.

The way I'm doing it is making the story more structured, as I can go back and forth in the outline when an idea comes to me. I am for the most part, "sit and write until it's done" sort of writer. Okay for short stories, but not so good for novels. I've been writing the novel for years, but I tend to think, "Hey, this is great, let's throw it in!" The result is a bloated story, with plot lines running every which way.

But outlining and summerizing the story, chapter by chapter, I can keep track of the plotlines (One main and four "subplots") I can make notes and questions I need to know for each chapter (Things I need to research, such as words in German, or what the state's laws are on a subject.) If I think of a character, or a plot point, I can look at the outline and think, "Where do I place this point/character/clue?"

For example, I realized I needed a new character about chapter 13, so I went back, added him to a couple of earlier chapter in the outline, estabishing his presnece and added him to the story. Now he's part of the story and doesn't feel tacked on at the last minute.

And to give you an idea how complex this outline has become, it's over 40 pages right now, with several more chapters outlined. It'll be a monster, but I think it'll be easier to write once I have the outline done.

Oh, and I've sent three revised stories to the BattleCorps editor, and I'm awaiting my first lead author product for the Battletech line. Hopefully, they'll be out before the end of the year.  ;D

I've had the same problem Turtle, which is why I have at least 4 incomplete writing projects and just back-burnered the one to start the new project. And I've already finished my first chapter...only seven pages instead of the 24-26-page monster chapters I had been doing...but I wanted to start with smaller chapters with tighter crafting. That and the psychology of being able to write 1-2 chapters a week will hopefully help me keep inspired...I still need to do an outline as I only have a rough idea in my head right now...but I wanted a first chapter to establish tone and part of the set-up. So far its been fun!

Sounds like you guys are trying to keep it real.

Me I'm struggling with the ending of the 5th novel in my Spinewards sectors series.  The main struggle simply seems to be the desire to write.  But I'm hopeful on that front.  I just need to push it over the finish line!
