is Feeding Dependency undercosted?
« on: January 31, 2013, 11:50:07 PM »
I mean, really. You gain a whole bunch of new things to worry about for a 1 refresh rebate. You have to deal with a new stress track and depending on how much power you put into it, huge attacks on that stress track that force you to take consequences. Could it be given a rebate based on how many Refresh worth of powers it governs?

I suggest you check out the Feeding Dependency rewrite in the Custom Powers Master List.
Even Chaotic Neutral individuals have to apologize sometimes. But at least we don't have to mean it.

A were-dragon in my group took it to govern like eight refresh worth of powers that he's gonna use shook the time.

He's something of a power gamer, so he figured the refresh just made him stronger, but his discipline is like 3, so I'd imagine he's gonna take a LOT of Hunger consequences.

We haven't actually started playing yet, though.

Feeding Dependency can be either underpowered or overpowered depending on the situation.

When attached to 2 Refresh of Powers on a Discipline 5 character, it's nothing. When attached to 10 Refresh of Powers on a Discipline 1 character, it can be utterly brutal.

And of course the way you interpret its ambiguous text affects its power level too.

The text seems fairly straightforward to me. Where is it ambiguous?

If you take stress that is not absorbed with consequences but are not taken out, do you lose Powers?

Uh...yes? What part of that's unclear?

There are other unclear parts about how that works, but that bit's crystal.

I guess people are only pretending to disagree with your interpretation, then.

It must be some kind of conspiracy.

That was honestly a legitimate question. Another reading of that literally didn't occur to me until you presented it. Re-reading it very carefully (with the idea that there are two interpretations)...I can definitely see the potential ambiguity, but it's pretty easy to read it and not even notice that there are two readings.

Your explanation of the issue thus leaves something to be desired, what with the confusing the only people who need it and all. And responding to a request for clarification by sniping is...not ideal.

Sorry, I thought you were asking rhetorical questions as an arguing tactic. So I responded in kind.

Eh...I'm probably oversensitive right now. I've got Stuff Going On. Anyway, looking at it again was useful, and indeed convinced me I'd been reading it wrong, so some good's come of this...

Hmm. Well, I managed to get it up to a +4 rebate. So now I need to decide what to do with twelve Refresh. Gishes are fun but expensive and hard to do without neglecting one side of it. Hmm. Incite Emotion is an interesting and flavorful thing to have in there.

If you're curious or have suggestions, i'm statting up Cinder of the Chandrian for a theoretical game and I just like having characters. I'm actually immensely proud of his Sponsored Magic.

(probably because I love sponsored magics. They are my precioussss)

You don't seem oversensitive to me. That was a pretty polite way to respond to snark.
