One of my players actually painted sides of regular dice to make them work.
RED: 3 & 4 (-)
YELLOW: 2 & 5
GREEN: 1 & 6 (+)

They weren't incredibly pretty, but they worked.

I have done something very similar, but rather I have taken whiteboard markers to the white dots on my dice. Red for - white for 0 and green for +, works like a charm and the dice still are perfectly usable for any other game.

You could take some black or white primer and spray in on the dice, then if you have paint and brushes small enough (like the kind you would use to paint miniature models), you can paint the + and - on.  You could also get creative and add design patterns to every side and along the edges as accents.

+1

Also, there's a mention in the book to use 2d6.  One is positive, one is negative.  Gives you a range of +/-5 instead of +/-4, and roughly the same bell curve statistically.

I've often seen round stickers used as office supply, that should almost exactly fit any regular sized die. That way you can cover up the holes and have your dice look pretty. You can draw a + and - on them or use different colored stickers to cover the sides.

For the long run you might want to consider ordering some off the internet. I am not sure about any shipping fees, so that might not be viable, but it can't be that bad, can it?
