Moderators and the chain of command here...
« on: May 26, 2007, 03:31:24 AM »
If I may ask, who is the "big cheese"/head moderator/TPTB/owner/whatever of these forums?

Thanks,
John

I run/own the forums/website.

Jim and Shannon Butcher are 'honorary' moderators -- they have all the power, but aren't responsible for doin' moderator stuff unless they choose to.

The other moderators, in descending order of seniority, are:

Ashton
Mickey Finn
Priscellie

Some individual boards may have their own 'local' moderators.
Fred Hicks
I own the board. If I start talking in my moderator voice, expect the Fist of God to be close on my heels. Red is my Fist of God voice.

That's the Chain of Command I imagined existed, though I must admit to not having noticed Ashton before.
Is he the board's M? (I'm talking James Bond here, you know, M, the Head of MI5 ;D He's watching us from the shadows.)
Other boards I've been on have a list of Mods, but I didn't mind having to work this one out for myself. Stops the old brain getting too rusty I hope.

Of course Ashton could be a member of the Black Council reporting back to them about us and Jim. ;)

Do you know what the chain of command is here? It's the chain Iago goes and gets and beats you with to show you who's in command...

You know, from the very second I typed in that subject line, I was waiting to see how long it would take for someone to reply with that quote.  :P

It's a requisite.  If one of us didn't say it, the board would shut down.

A little more background....

Once upon a time, this board was a mailing list. When I joined said list, Iago was in charge. SHortly after, he made Ashton his aide on the list. When we went boarderific, they were the mods.
I got added later, and Pris afterwards.

I'm highly active because my work allows me to multitask here...I do phone tech support for a major global energy company. Iago's job is much more scattered and focused (at the same time...fun, no?), so he grabs time to be on here, ASAIK.

Ashton lurks, I believe. Kracken-like.  He's here, though.

I'm the Merlin.

Ashton's the Blackstaff.

I'm pretty convinced that Jim is the Gatekeeper.

Mickey and Priscilla -- they're Senior Council, but I haven't figured out who yet. :)

LoL, Well if you keep the roles matched to characters from the books genders. It doesn't leave many options open for who Priscilla could be. And there is no way I'm going to make the refferance to a women, with the title or adverb of "Ancient" added onto her name or position.

I have it on very good authority, (it is what keeps me alive!) that women don't age past 29.

What do you mean by "The Gatekeeper"?  I always thought that Jim's title should be "The Storyteller".

Anyway good sires and ladies.. I commend you well on your ability to keep the knaves in check...  it is a daunting task indeed and one that has little thanks yet much sorrow.  May your sword be swift in judgement and your ire wained when blade has felled the head of the troublesome waif..

I know the pains of admining a board.  I admin a gaming site for xbox live... and weeee... do we ever get the infamous "what crawled from under a rock" crowd!  :o

Anyway, Jim really ought to have a custom title just to show that he really is the author and not just someone with that screenie (the question came up in another topic, and it would be nice to prevent any more confusion)

You mean a title like, "Yes, that Jim Butcher"?

Maybe Jim's title should be "El Guapo"?

Or maybe I'm just too much of a fan of semi-obscure '80s comedies.
