“Vol 1: Your Story” falling apart

Hey Guys,

I bought “Vol 1: Your Story“ when it was just released, read through it a few times and played a single session (a one-shot). Some months ago my gaming group decided to play the DFRGP regularly, so I read it again a few times, we played two sessions and then my book fell apart. A month ago I bought another one. This one had its headband loose, so I sent it back and I got a new one (my third). I read it a few times (as preparation), we haven’t played again yet. But guess what, it starts falling apart again. And I was very careful.

Any of you having the same issue? I think about getting my money back and just print it myself and put in a ring binder or something.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

EDIT for clarity: With “falling apart”, I mean that the pages of my book get loose from the glue binding. It’s holding together by those cords. But it’s getting worse, like the binding ripping of the cover.

Contact Evil Hat.  My book's held up fine, but I've seen others post this before.  Fred there is really quite good at making amends and rectifying things.

Yeah, this us actually a known issue. Some small percent of books had faulty glue in their bindings. Fred takes care of ya.

Ditto the above - sometimes, weird stuff happens, so Evil Hat is jaw-droppingly dedicated to customer service.

Well, it's the third book I’ve laid my hands on and all three of them were flawed. Two of those book were the second printing, I believe. My local retailer here in Germany even specifically looked for a copy the seemed to be okay (took him some weeks to find one that didn’t have a loose headband). Did they ship all the flawed books to Europe?

I'm not sure if contacting Evil Hat directly is a better way than handling it with my retailer (who is in direct contact with Evil Hat anyway), since I live in Germany and the shipping costs are almost as high as the book itself.

Just wanted to know if I should try until I get a copy that will last or if I should just ask for my money back and save myself and my retailer the hassle and just print it myself.

It's worth the effort to get a proper copy. It's a beautiful book, and unless you've got the money and access to a professional-quality printer, printing it yourself just won't look and feel as nice.

I'm over in sunny old England and my copy is holding up pretty well, so it could be a mainland Europe issue, or you could just be spectacularly unlucky.
Either way it seems like EvilHat take care of people and hopefully they will see that you are obviously a dedicated fan and deserve attention.

EDIT:  Oh and I completely agree about the beauty of the book.  I wouldn't be able to use a crappy printed copy knowing how stunning the original is.

My book began to fell apart too. Since I wanted to play the DFRPG I just tried to glue it back together. Now its kinda ugly buit it holds together.

Fred is fantastic at responding and helping out. My copy started falling apart recently too, and Evil Hat's already sending me a new one. I'm telling all my friends about how awesome they are.

Be sure and tell Fred that. Not only do they personally like hearing compliments (who doesn't?), it lets them know what they're doing RIGHT, which is just as important as knowing what they're doing wrong. And, to be practical, doing what you can to reinforce behaviors you like helps YOU out in the long run.

Anyway, I gave it back and I’ll bring my original copy to a bookbinder and see if he can fix it.
