CWG, it's not mean. I've been identifying as a D&D/LotR-type dwarf for years. A D&D buddy of mine, some 15 years ago, said, "You ARE a dwarf. A modern-day dwarf. You're built like a tree stump, things bounce off of you, you're good with axes and you like beer, but you're a foot or so taller than they were in Middle Earth's time. Evolution."

Or just better nutrition. Modern beer has less formaldehyde and floaty bits. Of course, that means fewer enriching calories, but there is a trade off.
