Always have a copy somewhere offsite.
That is - not in your house or the immediate environs of your computer.
That way, heaven forbid, something happens to the computer or house.
You've got a copy.

Doesn't mean that you can't use something from it in the future.

Ouch! :o   As I was once told.  Have at least 3 backups and at least one of them off site.

That sounds like something I would have said; these days I use writing laptop, net-capable desktop, and dedicated gmail account.

Unexpectedly got jumped by a project I have not touched for five years that's basically unsellable sfaict, but I can, I think, see how to finish it in probably four or five working nights, and it will, at this point, do me enough good to finish something that it's worth the investment of time.  Looking forward to betas squeeing, because this particular project is old enough to vote and I am not sure they ever expected to get to see how it ends.

Also, I have had an epiphany about plot that I think will make another backburnered project doable.

How's everyone been? Trying to get back into the writing thing after about three months of nothing. First short story I wrote really sucked according to some critters, a lot of very basic writing mistakes :(. I think I'll stick to revising my novel before I work the rust out of my writing abilities.

I'd been planning to go out today and write tomorrow, but as we are in the middle of having half a metre of snow and 50km/h winds, it looks like those plans will be swapped around.

And here we go, another 100kwords through-passed, minor tightens, and generally enjoyed.

Three more nights should cover this entirely. I hope.

Had an idea work out into a passable 2k opening. Waiting on an opinion as to whether it's strong enough to continue. If so, it's a change from my usual approach but I'm intrigued as to where my subconscious wants to go with this.

Made it to 218,000 words today.  Hole in plot filled, timeline of events fixed.  But it makes me wonder . . . why did I choose epic fantasy as my first novel?  Like beating my head against the wall sometimes, trying to keep everything straight.
