Dresden Files adventures?
« on: September 25, 2011, 12:14:44 AM »
I know about the published ones from Evil Hat, I have run all but their latest one and they are awesome.  I was just wondering if there is some other home-brewed ones floating around the ethereal web out there.  I seem to be be running out of creative juices and was wondering about other ideas out there.  Would anyone mind sharing ideas or past adventures?  What has worked and what has not for you?  Thanks.

Funny, no one seems to have replied to this thread yet, so here goes.

There had been a tweet about a week ago from the DFRPG site about a fan-created one page, one-shot encounter.
The link to it is here: http://www.epicwords.com/attachments/4471
I suspect more will be coming out in October, both because it's October and ends with Halloween, and that's Harry's birthday.

In terms of game ideas and things like that, what sort of ideas are you looking for?  One shot games, or something which would fit into a campaign?  Also, what sort of area is your campaign located in, and what is the power level?

Is there anymore like this out there?  This is great for a simple fun evening, it kind of reminds me of the short stories in relation to the novels - a glimpse into a day off or "an ordinary day".  Very nice,  thanks again.

Not yet, wait about a week.  RPG Geek is doing a Dresden Files design contest which ends Oct. 4th to design a one-page encounter set in the Dresdenverse using material either from the novels and/or the DFRPG books.

Once the contest closes, then the entries should be made public for voting, and you should be able get some ideas there.

I have been thinking of designing a group of PCs for each of the power levels I use for making NPCs, and providing a sample adventure for each.

The groups and adventures would be designed to focus on a variety of game concepts and themes, with the lower power levels being basic stuff for newbies and the higher ones being seriously complicated.

But I'm not made of time, so this project has been shelved indefinitely.

For what it's worth, here's what I had planned:

Hydrophobe: A group of pure mortal gang members, focused on varying combat skills, fighting other pure mortals in a gang war.

(Focusing on low-level physical combat, basic aspects and skills, and the system's bare bones.)

On The Beach: A bunch of Paranet-level folks trying to track down a murderous ghoul that's cutting through the local occult scene.

(Focusing on basic social combat and investigation. Introducing basic supernatural powers. Filling out the rest of the system basics.)

Feet In The Water: A bunch of supernaturals trying to get back home from the Nevernever.

(Focusing on survival, in combat and against the environment. Introducing evocation. Standard level of system complexity. Introducing Evocation.)

Up To Your Waist: Clued-in crooks are planning a heist against a magically protected target.

(Focusing on Declarations, Stealth/Burglary skills, and player creativity. Introducing Thaumaturgy.)

Chest Deep: Holy-powered hobos modeled after your stereotypical D&D party invade a necromancer's dungeon.

(Focusing on hack and slash combat, with a full range of powers and a fairly high level of optimization.)

Submerged: The most powerful supernatural figures in a given city try to get along. (Focusing on player-vs-player plotlines and high-level social combat.)

Snorkelling: A supernatural conspiracy tries to set itself up as a significant power.

(Focusing on politics and subtlety, especially using the Contacts and Resources skills.)

Scuba Diving: The White Council's Brute Squad kicks Red Court Vampire ass.

(Focusing on over-the-top magical mayhem and the destruction of armies by PCs.)

In A Submarine: ?

Deep One: ?

Okay, the RPG Geek design contest is now closed to entries and open for voting.  There are a total of four entries which are viewable and should provide some additional ideas.

Mods, if a link to an outside forum isn't allowed, please delete it or contact me and I'll remove it.

I like the concept.  A one page primer, or outline for adventure.  Should try that on this forum and see what happens.

I really liked to adventures, it really was a great idea.  I also would like to see what this group on these forums could do in this tye of venue.  I have lurked around an seen what you all can do.  I am always amazed at the creativity that you all show on these forum.

I for one would like to see more of this type of stuff.

Okay, well you asked for it.  More stuff will start coming out, or at least being linked to sites hosting one-shots.  Also, something should be coming out just after the 22nd of October if the schedule holds.

My group ran "Pizza Night" this week, with slight tweaks to fit our campaign setting, and they loved it.

I stated the fairies with Inhuman Speed, Diminutive Size, and +4 Athletics and Fists, but then I gave them one stress box each (and DS gave them one damage). So they were hard as hell to hit and dodge, but they didn't hit very hard and getting hit once took them out. They loved the new dynamic of that, too. I made four of them, different colors, (and named them Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde), and they'd ended up trapping one and taking another out before forcing the other two to talk, eventually spilling the beans on why they were there and who sent them. Our players ended up putting a glamour over themselves to look like Oberon and Titania, plus an Ogre and two Elf archers, to scare the piss out of the otherwise-mortal pizza owner who hired the pixies.

Oh, and it was a bunch of fun role-playing the pixies, too. "Brothers! Attack the swordy one!" "Sisters, the pretty one speaks of pizzas!" "The old one has a table! Look out, cousins!"

I heartily recommend it. We're going to try the auction one soon. I'm not terribly impressed with the other two ideas, personally, though I might do up a version of Ghosts in the Shell somewhere down the line.

Glad to hear you liked 'Pizza Fight'.  It was based off a one-shot convention game done for ConnectiCon 2011.  The Wee Folk had the party running around in circles until they finally figured out what was going on.  The looks on the players faces was well worth it.

Time permitting, the full version of 'Headless Horseman' will be making an appearance before Halloween.
