Question: Thresholds and Spells.
« on: September 08, 2011, 04:12:40 PM »
Suppose a wizard (perhaps Harry) were to attempt to attack someone inside a home with a nice strong threshold (let's say the Carpenter home.) If the wizard threw a fireball at the open doorway, would it get through? As in, would the threshold stop it, slow it down, weaken it or have no effect?
They rose amid the crag as lightning blasted the mountains black against the sky and lashed blue fire over their saddles and along the guns.

Spells being cast across a threashold are weakened just like they were cast inside the threashold.  Usually this applies to thaumaturgy, but it would happen to evocation as well.

But this problem - and any other protection vs magic - can be circumvented. If instead of a fireball Harry magically hurled a dustbin, tree, car or other ammunition at the target with the force of a cannonball, the threshold wouldn't do squat to stop them.

Yeah, that's a good point. Use wind or force to throw an object forcefully. Alternatively, if you're Ramirez, just lob a regular old grenade in there.

I wonder how thresholds fare against stuff like Harry's Gravitus spell. I'm guessing no more threshold ... because there's no more house.

Or... just catch the house on fire.  The threshold isn't going to protect the outside walls of the house.
There is no situation, no matter how overwhelming, that can not be overcome through logic and a liberal application of C-4.
