Summer Court Menagerie

Besides Gruffs and Centaurs, what other Fairy creatures are easily attributed to the Summer Court?

Elves, Sylphs, Orgres (both courts actually), Kelpies.

Nixie's don't say one way or the other, although I believe Jenny Greenteeth was one which would imply either Winter or both.

You could add Nymphs, Dryads, Saytrs as well, and they could easily be summer aligned.

A few more possibilities: fauns, brownies, cluricauns, gnomes, leprechauns, leshy, red caps, unicorns, will o' the wisps, cait sidhe, gwaed sidhe, and probably a lot more.  :)

Also, race / species doesn't have to determine court.  You could have refugees from another court, allies of the moment, or even species with similar numbers in any / all courts.

I've cast Redcaps as Wyldfae beholden to the Winter Court, but that's just for my game. I was looking for those creatures who are always Summer-aligned. Heck, maybe Centaurs are even Wyldfae. I'm just not sure.

I made a few more Summer fey for my game. Link here: http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,25366.0.html

I also made fire giants into Summer allies.

As for real-world mythological faeries, I got nothing.

Hope this helps.

Okay, I currently have the Realms of Fae broken up into five categories:

Summer/Seelie Court
Winter/Unseelie Court
Wild Hunt/Court of the Erlking
North Pole/Court of Grandfather Frost*
Wyldfae

*Please note, the existence of a Winter-aligned 'kindly' fae has been hinted at in the game, as well as by Jim, by evidence of its existence, lead by a Sidhe Brownie is still more conjecture at present.

Summer/Seelie Court
Brownies
Centaurs
Elves
Gruff
Kelpies
Ogres+

Winter/Unseelie Court
Fetches
Hobs
Malks
Nixies
Ogres+
Shellycobbs
Trolls

Wild Hunt/Court of the Erlking
Goblins
Hellhounds

North Pole/Court of Grandfather Frost*
Brownies?

Wyldfae
Cobb
Pixies
Rawhead & Bloody Bones
Sylphs
Gnomes
faerie horses
faerie dogs
giant bumblebees
spiders
bats
mountain lions made out of shadow
tree-spirits
Unicorns
Dewdrop fairies
Svartalf?
Sprites
Dryads
satyrs (aka fauns)
nymphs
canal nereid

+Please note, ogres serve both Summer and Winter, depending on which court they choose to serve.  It is also quite possible that a number of the other Fae start out as Wyldfae, and then choose which court to belong to.  Therefore though the only Centaur from the novels, Korrick, was a part of the Court of Aurora, the Summer Lady, there might also be Centaurs in service to the Winter Court.

?Please note, svartalf (from Norse mythos) are mentioned in the novels, but they might not be Fae, instead being something entirely different.

I need to re-read parts of Summer Knight and Turn Coat, as they can likely provide a few more examples of fae.

The Green man
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Man
- or rather the faerie the green man legends are based on - given he is global he must be fay, and given he is all about making thing grow and protecting the forest he must be summer.
I would HATE to be a character in one of the stories I write -
and then there are the days when it looks too much like I AM!

I sort of considered the Green Man to be more on an individual, rather than a type.  Given the relationship to growing things, it does seem appropriate for there to be a link to Summer, possibly as a member of the Summer Court (and rather high up I would imagine) or perhaps a non-Fae ally of the Summer Court.

The Erlking is referenced as ONE individual capable of calling up the Wyld Hunt, rather strongly implying that others are capable of doing so as well.
Even Chaotic Neutral individuals have to apologize sometimes. But at least we don't have to mean it.

The Erlking might be the leader of the Wild Hunt, or he might be /just/ someone who can lead it.  He does seem to be a powerful Sidhe Goblin though, since he does have his own court composed of Goblins.

There are subtle difference between the way different cultures depict him, (e.g.the himalayan green man figure wjere the things coming out of his mouth are said to be gusts of cold air rather than greenery- though the imagery is frighteningly similar) so I always felt that each patch of forest had it's own, which guarded that area - and that it's power dependend on the size of the forest.

So back in the 'Dark age' England, when the forest covered large stretches, he was one creature that covered most of north England, thus was bigger and more powerful and more respected.
But as the enclosure act and forest law was imposed and more trees were felled for farm land, he became diminished, fractalised into the many individual creatures, each in their own  small patch of reamining wood land.

It's possible if the new national forest plan takes off he could grow in power again...
