The Wizard's Death Curse
« on: November 20, 2013, 06:54:46 PM »
Can a death curse also be powered by Soulfire if the Wizard in question has access to it?  If so, can the wizard use Soulfire to invoke other Aspects without having to spend Fate points (since he's already going to die)?  Various vampires and other nasties wait with bated breath.
My Purity score: 37.2.  Sad.

I had a Soul-fire wielding character that used a death-curse.  I was allowed to use a point of sponsored debt (he was giving up his life, afterall...seems like a good way to pay off debt)...I would be careful with how much debt you allow.

My character exploded into a zone-wide Holy-water attack that killed a whole lot of nasties including an, almost plot-level BCV.

I forget what it was...like a weapon mid-twenties zone-wide attack...

Martyring yourself for the cause of good seems to fit Soul-fire.

Is he using ALL of his soul in the same way he is using up all of his body's magical reserves?  If he is sacrificing both his Life and his Afterlife, I'd say that earns quite a bit of power, especially given the Reality altering nature of Soul-fire in general

Why not?

It's a death curse, might as well err on the side of more power.

Methinks the sticky point in this discussion isnt as much about what the character can actually do when he's ready to sacrifice the character, its what would an opponent reasonably think said wizard could do with it, since fear of the DeathCurse is one of the prime protections a council Wizard has.  Once the dramatic moment comes it can be left up to the Awesomeness of the moment;  but before the character is committed to the sacrifice, the Curse's power is still relevant in terms of motivation's and tactical planning.
