I'll be there, of course!

Make sure you arrive early.  The Tribeca B&N doesn't have a lot of seating space.  The management is aware of Jim's popularity, however, and they're going to do their best to make it work.

How early do you advise? 4...5

I think 5 should be fine.  I'm sure there will be a bunch of folks there before you, but I doubt you'll have trouble finding seating that early.

I've gotta be there. This conversation earlier clinches it with a friend I'm visiting.

Me: So, what's your mom's name again? Because there's a signing in August and I could get one for her and your sister.

Her: You are about to be part of the family.

I'm gonna ask my friend Chris that was there for the NYCC dinner if he wants to tag along, too, so put me down for a possible plus one. I'm not sure if he'll be able to get the time/money, but we'll see. *fingers crossed*

Okay, plans for a massive fan dinner have been thoroughly derailed.  According to Jim, these signings can last as long as six or seven hours!  That's more than DOUBLE the longest signing I've ever been to.  Subsequently, it's impossible to know how soon all invitees will get through the line, and therefore what time to schedule the start of dinner.

Maybe the solution will be to suggest a restaurant as a designated meeting place, and have people show up as they exit the signing.  We'd have a continuously rotating group of Butcher fans to squee with!

Of course, if we did do a fan dinner, it has occurred to me that it would be NIGHTMARISH.  Everyone would have GS in their hands, but I still couldn't flail at them about it!  Half the room would probably have read the book in the week it would have been out, but we wouldn't be able to say a word, for fear of spoiling!  Maybe we could put people at two tables, one GS-spoiler-friendly and the other No Spoilers Allowed. :D

Sadly, the no-spoilers crowd would still have ears. The flail, it BURNS.

Holy Moly!  Five or six hours?  Poor Jim!  I am going to HAVE to get there early, while his hand isn't bleeding from holding the pen!

The two tables would be on opposite sides of the restaurant. :D

I will almost certainly be there.  It's very hard for me to me make plans too far ahead.

Incidentally, how about something before the signing (i.e. a late lunch)?  After all, we need to make sure Jim has the energy to sit through the entire process.  Then we can all march from the restaurant to B&N together.

I'll run the idea by him.  Of course, keep in mind that this will be towards the end of his tour, so I expect he'll be pretty exhausted and looking for some R&R time, or time to write.  Also, as this is NY, Penguin may have their own ideas for how he's going to spend his time in the city.  It would be fun to have a big lunch for the fans, but I'm not sure how likely it'll be that Jim will join us.  I suppose we could plan the lunch just for us, then he could decide for himself at the time whether he was up to joining us.
